Patrick Carter Obituary

Lifelong Alaskan, Patrick Lewis Carter Jr., passed away peacefully in his sleep Dec. 28, 2012, at the Alaska Native Medical Center in Anchorage.
Following a valiant and victorious battle against cancer, he received autologous stemcell transplant therapy. It was successful. However, his immunity still low, Patrick succumbed to complications resulting from influenza.
Patrick was born Aug. 10, 1961, to Sheila R. McKeag-Carter and Patrick L. Carter Sr. in Fairbanks. He was raised in a family of "dog people" and inherited a great compassion for all animals, especially Rottweilers.
He is a past member of the Tanana Valley Kennel Club, and enjoyed showing dogs, with his mom, owner of Sheila Rae Kennels.
Patrick attended North Pole High School, and after graduating, entered and completed the culinary arts program at Hutchison Career Center. He loved to cook.
He was fortunate to live a life wherein passions match talent and skills. He decided to serve his country, joining the Navy, where he continued to hone his skills.
He graduated as an APR communications navigation systems specialist and Naval Class A mess specialist. From Aug. 28, 1981, to Aug. 27, 1985, Patrick served on the USS Long Beach, doing what he loved - he was one of the main chefs on board.
After returning to civilian life in Alaska, he worked for Northland Wood Products for 28 years, dedicated to a strong work ethic. During this time, he developed connections and friendships with many people of all ages and walks of life.
Patrick shared his culinary talents on holidays and other ocassions, to the delight of his friends and family.
He is survived by his father, Patrick L. Carter, Sr.; and his mother, Sheila R. McKeag-Carter, of North Pole; his sister, Linda M. Carter; his aunt and uncle in Snohomish, Wash., Bermeyle and Charlie Pittman; numerous nieces, nephews and other members of his extended family, friends and associates in Alaska. He is also survived by his 'kids' - one cat and a Rottweiller.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, David and Marie McKegg, of North Pole; and Nita and Harry Carter, Sr., of Fort Yukon.
His family thanks the medical team who worked dilligently in the treatment and care of Patrick. He is missed and will be remembered always by those honored to have known him.
A graveside service will be announced at a later date.

Came to Alaska to visit friends in 1993 & was blessed to be introduced and date Pat for 3 months. Even though I returned to Florida,We stayed in touch through phone calls, video cam chit-chat, e-mails. I returned to Alaska in 2001. Even though the relationship we had ended. I feel HONORED to have a Friend like Pat. Not a "diamond in the rough". BUT TRULEY A " DIAMOND" YOU ARE MISSED!

Pat I first met you in the spring of 1974 when Jimbo and I walked down to see you. We grew and went to school for all those years. We visited you in Bremerton on our way through and eagerly waited for you to come home. Our phone calls and chit-chats at Safeway were the high light of my day. Mr & Mrs Carter you have our condolences but we know that your son and our friend suffers no more. Love and miss you Pat

I worked with Pat at Northland Wood for several years. There wasn't a better worker, nor more cheerful person on the staff. It was always a pleasure to be around Pat, and he will be missed by all who came in contact with him.

Patrick I met you when your parents went to pick up the first Rottweiller for your family. (Okay I babysat you and Linda when your parents went to the airport.) You grew to be a fine young man and a great friend to many including my brother James. I'm sure you and Jim are catching up now.
You will continue to live on in the many hearts you touched.

Love and Miss you Little Brother;

Pat Carter Jr was most notably a very kind man. I met him when he would bring his animals into our office for their health care. He had a thoughtful, wry sense of humor that I always enjoyed. He will leave a space in peoples everyday lives that only he could fill. I offer my condolences to his family, I have thought of you often.
