Terrence Gene Edwin passed away Dec. 19, 2012. Terry was born Jan. 31, 1946, in Tanana, to Lee and Marian Edwin and grew up in Tanana, Rampart and the Rapids. He also lived in Huslia for several years before moving back to Tanana. He was known as "Lambert," as he acted in the movie, "Spirit of the Wind." It was funny for those who knew Terry, as he wasn't much of a dog musher.
Growing up, Terry spent a lot of time in the woods, especially in the Rapids, with his cousins and brothers, Teddy and Freddie Jordan. Terry served in the U.S. Navy
during Vietnam. He also was a crew boss for the EFF crew.
Terry trapped and hunted until he became disabled. His friends took him out hunting and boating. He was the go-to-person; people took their moose heads to Terry to clean for potlatches. Sometimes he had up to three moose heads thawing in his house.
Terry had a lot of friends who took care of him. They made sure his wood was cut and packed in. His house was always open to whoever needed a place to sleep or eat. He had a sense of humor and entertained everyone who knew him. Everyone had a story to tell about Terry. For various fundraisers, Terry would call on his friend, Gloria, to bake something. He always got fish for his daughters and grandsons. He was always happy when his nieces and nephews visited him, and he always called a few of them for a ride whenever they were in town.
Terry is survived by his son, Clifford Lee Edwin; and children, Lee Bruce, Athor and Peyton; daughter, Terri Rosel and children, Seth and Jimmy; Melody (Bryce) Oakes; Serena Edwin; his "Babe," Gloria Albert; brother, Donald and son, Peter; sister, Elizabeth Starr and children, Deanna, Thelma, Patsy and Allen Jay; Flora Beauning and children, Mike, Kim and Ron; Lois (John) Huntington and children, Jacqueline, Daphne Leon and Leeanne "Bitsy Boo"; Grace and children, Angelo, Travis and Sherise; Blanche and children, Gary and Clayton; Melvin and children, Kylie and Darren; Jeanette Walker and children, Desilee and Savien; aunts, Josephine Riley and Josephine Roberts; and many other relatives and friends along the Yukon and Koyukuk rivers.
Terry was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Bertha and Basil Antoski; paternal grandmothers, Lucy (Riley) Emerson and Anne Edwin; his parents, Lee and Marian Edwin; siblings, Lee (Buzzy), George and Gary; nephews, Randy Lee Edwin and Billy Royal Moreland; niece, Marilyn Starr; uncles and aunt, Harry Riley and Jason and Mae Edwin, George Edwin; brother-in-law, Allen Starr Sr.; aunts, Carrie Jordan and Esther Walsh.
A funeral will be held at
1 p.m., today, Dec. 27, 2012, at St. Aloysius Catholic Church. He will be laid to rest at the Tanana Town Cemetery. A potlatch and Native dancing will follow at the Community Hall.
Arrangements were entrusted to Fairbanks Funeral Home.
