Thelma Arlene (Smith) Wright(1922 - 2013)

Thelma Arlene (Smith) Wright, 91, passed away May 15, 2013, at Denali Center, surrounded by her family.
A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, May 18, 2013, at the First Baptist Church of North Pole, 609 E. Fifth Ave., North Pole, with Pastor Johnny McCoy officiating. A viewing will be held one hour before the service at the church.
Thelma was born in Courtney, N.D., on Feb. 1, 1922, to Henry and Annie Smith. She graduated with a teaching degree from college where she met her husband, Freeman, and on Aug. 12, 1943, they were wed.
Thelma, her husband, and their five children drove up the Alaska Highway in 1957 and settled in North Pole. They opened Reindeer Service Station in 1957. They moved to Badger Road to start their homestead in 1961. Thelma taught at North Pole Elementary school as a substitute teacher for two years. Thelma, along with her husband, taught Sunday school at Moose Creek Church and First Baptist Church of North Pole. Freeman passed in 1991, making a wonderful 49 years of marriage.
Thelma was preceded in death by her love, Freeman Earl Wright; her parents, and her brother, Jerry.
She is survived by her daughter, Millie Wright; son, Bob Wright; son, Eldon (Wynnel) Wright; daughter, Georgia (Alan) Armbruster; and daughter, Carol (Frank) Stoneman. She is also survived by her sisters, Geneva, Eileen, Patti, and Janice; brother, Richard; sisters-in-law, Stella Mullen and Katie Wright; and her brother-in-law, Don Wright; 15 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and 10 great-great-grandchildren.
The family thanks all of the staff at Denali Center and Tom Wilson for all of their love and wonderful care.
