Al was born Feb. 28, 1947, in Lafayette, Ind., to Bill and Sarah James. His family moved to Alaska in 1962. He graduated from Tanana High School in 1965.
During his 50 years in Alaska, he served honorably in the National Guard and worked as a school teacher, surveyor, mechanic and telecommunications journeyman, retiring from the IBEW.
His passion for restoring things old and rusty, and interests in history and geology made for many memorable friendships.
He is survived by his wife of almost 47 years, Lula, and sons, Robert and Frank; twin brother, Bruce (Nancy); little sister, Jessica Morton; and cousins, nieces and nephews.
Burial will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, July 27, 2013, at Birch Hill Cemetery. A dinner will follow at the home of his brother, Bruce, at 5120 Decathlon Dr.
