Our beloved uncle, grandpa, nephew and friend to so many, Fabian Charlie, 67 years old, peacefully went home to be with the Lord, surrounded by family and friends on Aug. 19, 2013.|
He was born Nov. 8, 1945 in Old Minto to the late Timothy and Isabel Charlie. He grew up in Old Minto, and attended schools in Wrangell, Mt. Edgecumbe and graduated from Haskell Institute in Kansas.
He was a retired member of the Laborers Union, a deck hand on the Yutana Barge Line, seasonal firefighter and also worked on the trans-Alaska oil pipeline.
Fabian was a quiet fellow in his youth, often following his many cousins in Old Minto's adventures while growing up. He had a great love for his family and friends. While in Wrangell, he was part of the Sliders gang that consisted of Kenny C., Ronnie S., Ivan T. and Carol R., that at one point tried to escape unsuccessfully from the institute that was on an island.
He was preceded in death by his father, Timothy Charlie; mother, Isabel; sister, Marie Roberts; his son, Robbie Ray, and daughters, Robin and Kimberly Kay.
He is survived by his beloved daughter, Kristen Carol Charlie; his nieces and nephews, and former wife and close friend, Jessie Tritt Charlie, and his cousin, Melvin Charlie. Also related to the Jimmie family of Minto are, Will Mayo and family; Valerie Matthews and family; Simon Matthews and family; numerous friends, aunts, uncles, cousins and many friends in Minto, as well as Donald Charlie and family, of Nenana.
A viewing will be held from 11a.m. to noon Thursday, Aug. 22, 2013, followed by a memorial service at noon, at the Tribal Hall. The Rev. Scott Fisher will officiate.
Funeral service is set for 1 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 24, 2013, at the Community Hall in Minto. The Reverend Luke Titus and other ministers will officiate. A potlatch will follow.
