Lillian "Ruth" Shannon Obituary
Lillian "Ruth" Shannon, 80, of Fairbanks, passed away Tuesday, Dec. 25, 2012, at The Denali Center.
Ruth arrived in Fairbanks with her three young daughters. Her first job was with the Department of Defense on Fort Wainwright in the warehouse in the 1960s. She then worked for the R.C.A. as one of the first telephone operators until her fourth daughter was born. Ruth then opened and operated Ruth's Café on Second Avenue. She also worked at the Switzerland and Jeffries as a waitress for many years. Ruth married Dalton "Buddy" Shannon in April 1984. 
Her family said: "Our Mom retired from Emerald Isle Pull tabs with Dalton 'Buddy' Shannon at her side. She was an avid bowler for years and she bowled in many leagues.
"She belonged to the American Legion and the Women of the Moose. Through her businesses, she raised money for many charities. She was very loved by all family and friends. She will be dearly missed by all that knew her."
Ruth is survived by her daughters, Renee Klatt, of North Pole, Charla Howard, of Salem, Ore., Starr Tucker, of Anchorage, and Molly Mobley, of Lewiston, Idaho; grandchildren, Wendy Bingham, of North Pole, Ronald Bingham, of North Pole, Saree Scalcucci, of North Pole, P.J. Scalcucci, of North Pole, Pam Eiter, of Salem, Ore., Mikila Carello, of Lancaster, Pa., Jon Howard, of Salem, Ore., Chris Howard of Salem, Ore., Christina White, of Anchorage, Jamie Haller, of North Pole, Joseph Pollastrini, of Lewiston, Idaho, and KD Kertson, of Lewiston, Idaho; 21 great-grandchildren, and six great-great-grandchildren. Ruth was preceded in death by her husband, Dalton "Buddy" Shannon; and granddaughter, Sammie Dominick.
A celebration of life will be held at 4 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 9, 2013, at Fairbanks First Church of the Nazarene, 1524 Westwood Way, with Rev. Marshall Mayfield officiating.
