Cremation has taken place and interment, with military honors, will be in the Choteau Cemetery, under the direction of Gorder Jensen Funeral Home.
Ted was born April 17, 1939, in Helena, Mont., the son of Robert F. and Carol (Wells) Cooney. He was raised and educated in Helena, attended the University of Montana-Missoula, and received a doctorate degree in marine science from the University of Washington.
Ted was a veteran of the U.S. Navy and a retired professor of marine science at the University of Alaska Fairbanks.
He was married to Jacquelyn King, on Sept. 1, 1960, in Helena. They moved to Choteau in 1999, from Fairbanks. He was a member of the Methodist Church and the American Association of Applied Sciences.
He was an excellent vocalist and provided the community with much enjoyment.
Ted is survived by his wife, Jacquelyn, of the home; his mother, Carol Cooney, of Choteau, Mont.; children, Michael (Iva) Cooney, of Moose Pass; Kim Cooney, of Homer; and Kurtis Cooney, of Eagle River; and a granddaughter, Hana Cooney, of Moose Pass.
He was preceded in death by his father and two sisters, Carol Kathleen "Kay" Peterson and Jean Roberts.
