Barbara Claspill Obituary
After a long battle with cancer, Barb Claspill has been called home to heaven to be with our heavenly Father. She passed away, the morning of Dec. 20, 2012.
A funeral mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 22, 2012, at St.Patricks Church, on Muldoon Road in Anchorage. A celebration of life will be held in Healy at a later date.
Barb was born in St. Louis, She was raised there, and met and married the love of her life, Dan Claspill. They settled on a small farm in the country and started a family. They remained in Missouri until 1979, when they moved to Wyoming.
They lived in Wyoming for three years until they moved to Healy during the summer of 1982. There they settled and homesteaded on the Stampede Trail. In the summer of 1992, Barb saw her dream come true. She opened her very own B & B, called "Touch of Wilderness Bed and Breakfast."
Barb and Dan had found a wonderful community, and have called their community "family" for 30 years. Barb would always tell people back in Missouri that she loved Alaska and her friends there so much, she wouldn't trade it for anything in the world.
Barb was very active in her community. She worked many years at the school as a substitute, chaperoning for sports trips, cooking for visiting teams and helping with fundraisers. She served on many communities, and was a big pusher of promoting tourism in Healy. She was very active in her church and was always up for the next adventure. She loved gardening, quilting, scrap booking and hosting her retreats.
Barb took great pride in raising her children, and adored her grandchildren immensely. Barb always had a listening ear, a kind word, and a loving hug and welcoming smile to everyone. She had a big heart and always found the good in everyone and everything.
She had a love for life that shown through so bright that you couldn't help but love her. She will leave a huge hole in our hearts and will be missed by everyone that knew her.
She is survived by her loving husband of 46 years, Dan Claspill; her son, Troy Claspill; daughter-in-law, Nan; and grandchildren, Jessy and Dawn; her daughter, Tammy McCormick; son-in-law, John; and grandchildren Cody, Emerick, Savannah and Abby; son, David Claspill; and grandson, Fox; many sisters and brothers, nephews, nieces and many many friends here in Alaska and Missouri.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Providence Hospice Care, who so lovingly and tenderly helped care for mom and keep her comfortable in her last days.
