Douglas B Buckley Obituary
Douglas B. Buckley, of Nome and Fairbanks, died Jan. 7, 2013, at his home in Fairbanks.
He was born Feb. 15, 1955, in Springfield, Ohio, and grew up in Wilmington, Ohio. He came to Alaska in the late 1970s. He studied mining engineering at the University of Alaska Fairbanks.
Doug prospected and mined in the Nome area and throughout the Seward Peninsula, prospecting in the Kigluaiks, the Kougarok district, as far east as the Bendeleben mountains and as far west as Teller.
He located the fifth beach deposit in Nome during the late 1980's. He and his wife, Kathleen (Shepherd) Buckley, met in Nome in 1984. They married in 1994 and have a son, Gunnar; and daughter, Gwen.
Doug worked in Fairbanks as an electrician and was a proud member of the I.B.E.W. He worked for various mining companies in the Fairbanks area and did related work in construction. If it needed doing, Doug would get it done.
He is preceded in death by his father, A. Bruce Buckley; and is survived by his children; and his mother, Virginia L. (Perry) Buckley; sister, Lisa Buckley; brother, Mark; sister-in-law, Charlotte, and their family; and many cousins, aunts and uncles in the Lower 48.
His family and friends will greatly miss his bright, brave, and forthright spirit, his kindness, his wit, and the love he showed to his family.
A memorial service celebrating Doug's life will be held at 3 p.m. Jan. 29, 2013, at the First Presbyterian Church, 547 Seventh Ave., in Fairbanks.
Arrangements were entrusted to Chapel of Chimes Funeral Home.
