Elizabeth Nicole Cheney, 24, of North Pole, passed away on Sept. 30, 2012, at her residence.|
She was born Feb. 18, 1988, in Fort Worth, Texas, to Adam and Lenora Cheney. She was a graduate of Lathrop High School.
A memorial service will be held at 6:30 p.m. Monday, Oct. 8, 2012, at Bethel Church, 1310 Farmers Loop Road, Fairbanks.
Her family states, "Hey, come outside and look at the lights," a friend requested from my front door. The living room was filled with the closest of well wishers here to give comfort following the passing of our daughter, Elizabeth. The night air was cool and crisp with a faint hint of wood smoke that announced the arrival of winter. Above our house was an array that at first was not perceived as light, but more like an event, or a special occasion taking its place in time.
"As we looked up in the direction that could only be toward heaven, all were in awe of the gathering of lights that had been orchestrated by God to be an answer to the recent prayers of this night's events. Movements by the light took on the shared appearance of children, joined hand in hand, dancing across the veil of night. With the moon and stars gathered on the other side, we all shared in the heavenly entertainment, silent and visual of every movement and every color. In that moment the cool air was not felt, the sorrows and pain of loss seemed temporarily abated, worldly cares unimportant, only the brief enlightenment of what must occur for those with the blessed hope, that pass from here to the other side of this life.
"As I watched, this seemed to me as a gift, sent by a caring Father, who announced in my heart that my prayers for peace had been answered. Elizabeth was up there, dancing for the first time. There was no more being confined to a bed, she now had the vastness of eternity to celebrate her new life. Holding the hands of loved ones, Sissy was now enjoying the long-awaited hope of God's promise. As the lights paraded off into the distance, a little of our pain went with it. We hugged our dear friends goodnight and returned to home more aware of reality of our sweet Elizabeth's new life."
She is survived by her parents, Adam and Lenora Cheney of North Pole; brother, John Cheney; sister-in-law, Amanda Cheney; brother, Seth Cheney; nephew, Kamryn Cheney; grandmother, Janice Chavez; grandfather, Norman Andrews; grandmother, Mikki Andrews; grandfather, Martin Cheney, and grandmother, Linda Cheney.
