Frank Attla Obituary

Frank Ostlund Attla, 21, passed on to the happy hunting grounds on May 26, 2010, in North Pole.
Frank was born in Fairbanks on July 17, 1988, during a good salmon run, to George Attla Jr., of Huslia, and Tamara Ostlund, of Fairbanks. He was raised in North Pole and Huslia.
He attended grade school in North Pole, high school in Huslia and proudly received his high school diploma at the Military Youth Academy in Anchorage. His favorite teacher and coach was his dad.
Frank was passionate about his family, dog mushing and the Army. Frank had a zest for life and a great sense of humor. He loved to make people laugh and smile. Frank enjoyed hunting, snowmachining, dancing and music, and loved to share a good story. Frank was especially proud to be an uncle and best friend to Gary Attla Jr., Stewart and Randy Attla, and also best friends to Joey and Craig Thomas, Bowen Alexander, Ivan Vent and Timothy Sam.
At an early age, he began racing dogs and was delegated youth spokesman for the Junior Dog Mushers Association. Later, he competed in dog races on the Koyukuk River, Yukon River and Canada.
Frank also worked as a seasonal fire fighter, trapper, woodcutter, laborer at the Hog River Mine and a deckhand for Inland Barge. He lived his dream of joining the Army Reserve.
In November 2009, he graduated Basic Training in Texas and Advanced Individual Training in May. He recently came home to Alaska with his new title, Private First Class Frank Attla. He was assigned to Headquarters and Headquarters Detachment, 1984th United States Army Hospital in the Patient Administration Department. Frank was awarded the Army Service Ribbon, National Defense Service Ribbon and the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal.
Frank is preceded in death by his paternal grandparents George Sr. and Eliza Attla, maternal grandfather Douglas Ostlund Sr., sister Barbara Attla, nephew Stephan Attla, uncles Frank Attla and Ron Manook, and his aunt Minnie Yatlin.
He is survived by his father George Attla Jr., mother Tamara Ostlund, sister Shey Attla, brother Gary Attla, brother George Attla III and Christine, sisters Phyllis Attla and Marilyn Attla, sister Eliza and Charles Tiulana, Amanda Attla, and maternal grandmother Agnes Ostlund. As well as many loved uncles, aunties, nephews, nieces, and cousins.
A service will be held at 11 am on Monday, May 31 at the tribal hall in Fairbanks. He will be laid to rest with full military honors at Birch Hill following the service. A potlatch will follow at 6 p.m. at the tribal hall. Everyone is welcome to attend.

During this time of mourning, I would like to express my sincere condolence at the loss of your loved one. May you find comfort in persistent prayers, as “the peace of God that excels all thought will guard your heart and your mental powers” [Phil. 4:7]. I certainly hope that the help God can give at this time will make a difference.

Although we never were lucky enough to meet Frank, I have a son about his age. As parents, the loss of a child is one of the deepest wounds. Family will carry you through this. When you think you can't go on, you will find the strength to do so. Always remember the happy times and good memories. Hugs and prayers to you all.

Frank was a very unique young man you had to have a lot of patience to deal with him but once you got to know Frank you realized he was pure at heart and that he meant well. He always kept us on our toes because you never knew what would come next. Frank's laugh was very distinctive he and i joked all the time that Seth McFarlande owned him a copy right check for his charachter's Roger's laugh on American Dad. Frank you will be truely missed. He will forever be Army Strong in our hearts.

ATTLA YOU WILL FOREVER BE MISSED BY YOUR 68G CLASS. I REMEMBER SITTING BY YOU IN AIT CLASS AND EVERY MORNING YOU WOULD HAVE SOMETHING TO TALK ABOUT WHETHER IT BE ARMY OR POLITICS. LOL! IT WAS HARD FOR US TO KEEP YOU ON TRACK SOMETIMES BUT I LATER REALIZED THAT YOU WERE JUST BEING YOU. I RESPECTED THE FACT YOU SPOKE YOUR MIND NO MATTER HOW OTHER PEOPLE FELT. LOVE YA AND RIP. This is PFC Brazzle,

PFC Attla was a nice guy and very unique. The thing that stood out most to me while we were in class together in Texas was his laugh, no one has a laugh like him. Rest in Peace from your class.
