Geraldine Annette Hutchison

1935 - 2014 Obituary Condolences
Geraldine Annette Hutchison Obituary
Alaska Pioneer Geraldine "Gerry" Annette Hutchison passed away April 4, 2014, in North Pole. She was born Nov. 17, 1935, to James "Hutch" Thomas Hutchison Sr. and Helen (Matson) Hutchison in Fairbanks.
Her mother, Helen, was from Ninilchik and her father, "Hutch," was a famous Alaska pioneer aircraft mechanic who came to Alaska in 1920 with the Army Signal Corps.  Gerry was a resident of Fairbanks, Anchorage, Nome, Kenai, Soldotna and North Pole, where her last days were spent.
She worked for the Social Security Administration in Anchorage for many years and later worked for the Alaska Court System in Nome and Kenai, where she retired. Gerry also dabbled in small businesses like the Yellow Cab Café in Nome. Gerry is a lifetime member of the Pioneers of Alaska. While she was in Nome, she was an active member of the Lions Club (Women's Auxiliary).
Gerry was an excellent cook and baker. She enjoyed catering anniversaries, weddings and birthdays. She was talented and loved to knit, crochet and sew and always was ready to teach anyone how to do these things. Her granddaughter, Lisa, said, "Grandma was always trying to teach me something when I was around her." During Gerry's last days, she wanted to teach her granddaughter, Marlena, how to crochet. That's the kind of gal she was.
Gerry had a great memory and loved to talk about the history of Fairbanks. She enjoyed the simple things in life and encouraged others to also. She loved to play the accordion and enjoyed the happiness it brought people when she played. A few years ago, she played for folks at Pioneer Park in Fairbanks. She was full of life.
She is preceded in death by her parents and eight siblings, Ruth Conard, James Hutchison Jr., Marion Acord, Harold Hutchison, Harry Hutchison, Rose DeLima, May Hutchison, Elaine Hutchison; step-grandson, John Ortberg; and great-grandson, Hayden Giang.
She is survived by her one remaining sibling, Josephine "Bunky" Hoskins; children, Richard Voss Jr., Randall Spencer Sr., April Spencer, Michael Furrey Sr., Earl Butcher; and step sons, Theodore Spencer Jr. and James Spencer.
Her grandchildren include Christine Beecroft, Randall Spencer Jr., Marlena Tufford, Audrey Spencer, Lisa Rucker, Judith "Annette" Hubbard, Dana Hubbard, Axel Olsen, Michael Furrey Jr., Miranda Furrey, Noah Voss, and Sam Voss; adopted granddaughter, Lavone Giang, and step-grandchildren, Sunji, Tarik, Sarah, Orion, Sasha, and Ahna Spencer, Susannah Karella, Naomi Green, Cary and Harvey Ortberg; great-grandchildren, Kaleigh and Trayce Lyon, Aaleahya Beecroft, Christian and Randall Evan Spencer, Martha Apok-Tufford, Cedric Tufford, Autumn Atwood, Preston Rucker IV, Landyn and Tanner Furrey; step great-grandchildren, Levi, Melody, Hayley, and Ashlynn Giang, Felipe and Chelsey Hernandez, Jonathan Giang, Matthew and Kyla Karella, Kevin, Trevor and Robin Green, and Dustin Woodard.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. June 28, at Chapel of Chimes in Fairbanks, followed by a graveside service at Northern Lights Cemetery.
