Jean Cory Obituary

Jean M. Cory passed away peacefully Thursday evening, April 14, 2011, where she was surrounded by the loving staff of Denali Center.
A celebration of her life will be held at her home in Denali Center at 1 p.m., Saturday, April 23.
Jean was born in New Haven, Conn., on May 22, 1931, and spent most of her adult life on the East Coast. In 1952, her friend and cousin, Lynn Nolan introduced her to the love of her life, James W. Cory. They married later that year and lived in New York City until the late '70s, when they decided to move to Auburn, N.Y., to be closer to her mother and sister. She made many friends in Auburn, but after Jim passed away she decided to move again. This time it was across the country to be with her daughter and grandchildren in Alaska.
She grew to love the people and places of Fairbanks but never let the "city" out of her heart. She was always a "New York lady."
Jean will be deeply missed by her daughter and son-in-law, Barbara and Rich Hompesch; grandchildren, Cori and Richard Hompesch; sisters and brothers-in-law, Carol and John Emperor of Syracuse, N.Y., Gail Loveland of Las Vegas and Mary and Frank (deceased) De Cesare of Dumont, N.J.; animal friends, Spike and Bandit; and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.
Her family wishes to thank the nurses and staff at Denali Center for the wonderful care they have provided for the last 11 years. They treated her with love and respect but most of all they treated her like family.
Her family will take Jean back to New York to be laid to rest with her husband later next month.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that contributions be made to the Denali Center Resident Council.
Arrangements were entrusted to Chapel of Chimes Funeral Home.
