John Collins, 68, of Fairbanks, husband of Julie, passed away on Sunday, Dec. 16, 2012, at his home.

John was born on July 27, 1944, in Baltimore, Md.. He has resided in Alaska for the past 26 years, living in Fairbanks, Anchorage, Wasilla and Big Lake. John served his country honorably in the U.S. Army, including two overseas tours, and learned Russian, German and French. After serving his country, John was employed in restaurant management.
John was married in Monterey, Calif., to Julie Ann (Burke), in 1979.
His family said, "John took care of his family, served his country, traveled the world, and made lasting friendships wherever he found himself. He was a loving husband, father and friend. We were blessed to have him in our lives."
John is survived by his loving wife, Julie Ann Collins of Fairbanks; sons, Timothy Collins of Fredericksburg, Va., Jebediah Collins of Fairbanks, Zachary Collins of Fairbanks; sister, Nancy Collins of Pataskala, Ohio; and five granddaughters.
There will be graveside services for John in the summer at Birch Hill Cemetery with Fr. Kaspar Mallavarapu officiating.
Arrangements were entrusted to Chapel of Chimes Funeral Home.
