Julia Pair Edwards, 87, our loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother departed this world on Wednesday, Aug. 8, 2012, to be with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
She was born in Calhoun County (Saint Matthews), S.C., on Nov. 7, 1924. She was the only female child born to Jack Pair and Daisy Aiken Pair.
She was preceded in death by her husband and nine brothers.
Julia met and married Arthur Edwards in South Carolina where she grew up. Two children, Arthur Edwards Jr. and Daisy Edwards, were born to them. She moved to New York City in 1956 and relocated to Fairbanks in 2003 to live with her children.
Julia worked in factories in New York City until she became disabled. She was a faithful member of Refuge Temple in New York City, and went on several missionary trips. She enjoyed singing, worshiping, and sharing the good news.
In Fairbanks she joined the First Church of God in Christ and continued to worship and praise the Lord from her wheelchair. Her favorite scriptures were Isaiah 54:17, "No weapon that is formed against thee shall prosper," and Psalms 51 and 91.
Second to worship, her favorite pastime was loving and spoiling her granddaughter and great-grandson.
Her son said, "When it came to living humbly and treating people justly, mom was a gracious example to follow and she set the bar very high."
Her daughter, Daisy Edwards, son, Arthur Edwards, granddaughter, Olatunji Julia Odutola, and great-grandson, Marquise Odutola, will forever cherish her memory.
Visitation will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 11, 2012, at First Church of God in Christ, 308 Ladd Ave., followed by a funeral service at noon officiated by Pastor Herb McCormick.
