Keith Loren Phillips passed away comfortably June 15, 2013, at the age of 76, at Fairbanks Memorial Hospital.
Keith was born Jan. 31, 1937, in Milwaukee, Wisc. He lived numerous places throughout his young life, including stays in Chicago, Newfoundland and northern Wisconsin. Keith was a member of the United States Army from 1954 through 1962. He spent time as an English teacher in the 1960s, worked as merchant seaman in the early 1970s before hitchhiking to Alaska in October 1974.
In 1978, he was wed to Carol Young in Fairbanks. In 1983, Keith became a loving, stay at home father to his only son, Maurice. In 1984, he was a crew member on the boat that won the Yukon 800, piloted by his nephew, Scott.
Keith is survived by his sisters, Renee and Pat; nephew, Scott, and his wife, Janet; Keith's wife, Carol, and their son, Maurice.
Keith will be remembered fondly for his quick wit, storytelling, immense enjoyment of the outdoors, and most of all for his love for friends, pets and family.
