Louise Lowell, beloved mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend, passed away unexpectedly on April 19, 2013, at age 66.
The sixth of seven children, Louise was born July 23, 1946, in Mulberry, Ark., to Albert and Elvira "Polly" Thomas.
Louise lived almost her entire life in the Fairbanks area, graduating from Ben Eielson High School in 1964. She married Ted Wolfe in 1965, and had one child, Kimberly Ann, in 1966. She was divorced in 1968, and met the love of her life, Don Lowell, while working at SBA.
Louise worked for various federal agencies and private attorneys as a legal secretary before settling into her niche with the Fairbanks District Attorney's Office where she worked until she retired after 14 years in state service.
Louise was actively supportive of Don's many political crusades, always happily organizing and cooking for many political fundraisers and get-togethers at their home, but her true joy in life was spending time with her grandchildren, Madison and Logan.
Louise was an accomplished gardener and could make anything grow. Summers at the Lowell house were always full of beautiful flowers and plants. Don and Louise loved to entertain, and hosted many memorable dinners, barbecues and impromptu gatherings at their home for their many friends and family throughout the Fairbanks area.
Louise often described herself as "ordinary," but she was anything but. Louise had a kind nature and generous spirit that touched everyone she met. Louise was a dear friend to all who knew her, and will be missed more than words can express.
Louise was preceded in death by her husband of 33 years, Don Lowell; her parents, Albert and Elvira Thomas; brother, Joe Phelps and sister, Shirley Lucas.
Louise is survived by her daughter, Kim Kile; grandchildren, Madison and Logan Kile, of Fairbanks; her sister, Linda Bredlie, of Fairbanks; her sister and brother-in-law, Ginger and Merle Stewart, of Oregon; brother and sister-in-law, Richard and Diane Thomas, of Oregon; sister, Jean Hopkins, of California; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Pat and Don Skolrood, of Washington; and brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Edwin and Shirley Bochenski, of Washington; nieces and nephews, Robert (Nicole) Bredlie, of Anchorage; Chris (Shastine) Bredlie, and children, Jonathan, Matthew and Cassandra, of Washington; Karen (Don) Freestone, and children Michael and Timothy, of Anchorage; Debbie (John) Barnes, and children, Kaitlyn and Summer, of Fairbanks; Michael (Shea) Bredlie, and children, Jacob and Alexander, of Fairbanks; David (Phoebe) Bredlie (children Colin and Grace), of Fairbanks; Cathleen (George) Elmies, of California; Jim Stewart and Megan Stewart, of Oregon; Claire Thomas, of Oregon; Shannon (Dan) Croasmun, of Ohio; numerous extended family and more friends than can be listed.
At this time, no service is planned, although a memorial will be held at a later date.
