She is survived by her husband of 65 years, Holland Butler; their daughter, Brenda Dow (Rolin); granddaughters, Laura Williams (Ryan) and Marion Puchek (David); and three great-granddaughters, Rachel, Kathryn and Kyla. She is also survived by her siblings, Betha Parrish, Annie Sherman, Gravis Drummond, Toilee Lipham and Sarah Prater.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents, one brother and one sister.
Mary was born in Ranburne, Ala., and moved to Fairbanks in 1953, when her husband was transferred with the U.S. Air Force. She and her husband cherished the great outdoors and traveling around the state. They chose to make Alaska their permanent home upon retiring from the Air Force.
Mary had a love of travel and lived a life of service. She was able to visit all 50 states and 45 foreign countries. She was very active in her church, teaching English as a second language to foreign nationals and serving in the college ministry. She also went weekly to visit people in the Pioneers' Home spreading the love of God to all she met.
Mary made five different mission trips to Africa, Australia and Russia. She never met a stranger and passed on her love of missions and hospitality to her family and friends.
A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m., Sunday, March 10, 2013, at the First Baptist Church located at 805 Sixth Ave. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to
