In the early evening of Sept. 26, 2012, after enduring a three-year battle with lung cancer and emphysema, Patrick McFadden Jr. left this world and is free of the illness.
Patrick was the first-born child to Patrick Sr. and Natalie McFadden. He was born Oct. 8, 1938, in Anchorage.
Patrick attended grade school in the basement of the Immaculate Conception Church in Fairbanks, and attended high school at the Main High School on Cushman Street.
A veteran of the U.S. Army, Paddy served from 1959-1961. He spent most of his life in Fairbanks and homesteaded in the Goldstream Valley.
He loved anything mechanical since childhood. Paddy worked for the Alaska Railroad for more than 27 years in the roundhouse as a machinist and general mechanical foreman. After retirement, he did bookkeeping for the Boatel Bar and also for the Tanana Valley State Fair for many years.
He loved to play in dart tournaments. Paddy bought a house in Mazatlan, Mexico, where he spent most of his winters, but he always came back to Alaska.
His parents, Patrick Sr. and Natalie McFadden; sister, Mary Ellen Davis, and nephew, Max Patrick Davis, preceded him in death.
Two brothers survive him, James McFadden and Michael McFadden, both of Fairbanks, and sister, Patricia Shelley of Fairbanks. He also is survived by two nephews, William Brian and Philip Conrad Davis, both of Palmer.
Patrick requested that there be no visitation or funeral services. A celebration of life will be held at a later date to be announced at the Boatel Bar.
