Patsy L. Weaver Obituary
After a long courageous battle with cancer, Patsy Lou Weaver passed away Dec. 30, 2012, at home surrounded by her family.
Pat was born Nov. 1, 1938, in Roanoke Rapids, N.C., to Lottie and William Atkinson.  She was the middle child in a family of 13 children.
Pat met her future husband, Ken Weaver, on a blind date on New Year's Eve in 1958. They were married Nov. 21, 1959, in Hampstead, N.C., and soon began a cross-country drive, moving to Fairbanks. Their first son, Randy, was born in June 1961, followed by Kenneth Jay in September 1965, and Glen in June 1969.
Pat worked at Alaska National Bank of the North and Mt. McKinley Bank for many years. Though her customers were important to her and it was hard for her to think of someone else taking care of them, she retired to travel and enjoy her grandchildren.
Family was important to Pat and she could always be found at her sons' baseball and hockey games, band concerts and later at her grandchildren's piano recitals, sporting events and concerts. Her competitive nature often showed in her cheering and critique of the games. Her home was a welcome place for neighborhood kids and there usually was a game of some sort taking place in the back yard.
Pat and Ken loved to travel and made friends everywhere they went. Some of their favorite trips included visiting Hawaii, Mexico, the Panama Canal, Germany, Australia, New Zealand, Japan, Fiji and Holland.
Pat enjoyed playing cards with friends and was an avid bowler. She volunteered with the food bank and was a longtime member of AARP Chapter 770, the Pioneers of Alaska Women's Igloo No. 8 and Zion Lutheran Church.
Pat is preceded in death by her parents, Lottie and William; siblings, Billy, Carl, Frances, Hazel, Buddy and Alice; and granddaughter, Sydney.
Pat is survived by her husband of 53 years, Ken; sons, Randy (Tammi), Jay (Carrie), Glen (Laura); nephew, Michael (Lynn) Atkinson; grandchildren, Alyssa, Jeremy, Jordan, Lily and Jack; siblings, Sis, Troy, Worda, Richard, Robert and Jimmy; and numerous nieces and nephews.
There will be a visitation from 7-9 p.m. Friday, Jan. 4, 2013, at Chapel of Chimes. Funeral services, with a reception following, will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 5, 2013, at Zion Lutheran Church, officiated by Pastor Jonathan Walla.
The family wishes to thank Dr. Jacque Cox, her staff and the care providers from hospice for their help during this difficult time.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to the Fairbanks Hospital Foundation to support the J. Michael Carroll Cancer Center, P.O. Box 71396, Fairbanks, AK 99707.
We love you, Mom, and are glad you are in God's hands and no longer suffering.
Arrangements were entrusted to Chapel of Chimes Funeral Home.
