Paul, Neva and I were friends for 48 years. He was my senior by two years and was my first troop commander when we served together in the Third Armored Cavalry Regiment in Germany, 1967-68. That was the beginning of a lifelong friendship. Our careers continued to overlap. I had completed flight school before Paul. His first assignment after he graduated flight school was with the Aviation Platoon, 11th Armored Cavalry Regiment and I was there to greet him since I was the Operations Officer for the platoon. We overlapped almost two months before Paul was re-assigned, in Country, to a Cobra Unit in the 17th Air Cavalry. We spent many Christmas Holidays together. When I commanded a tank Company at Ft. Carson, they came to visit over Christmas with Paul the younger. I visited them when he was getting his master´s degree in history at Ann Arbor, MI. I was with Paul at West Point when he had his first heart attack. Years later he stayed at my house when he had his second triple bypass surgery at Walter Reed, in Washington, DC. When Neva worked in Vicenza Italy, I visited them for a wonderful week during Carnivale in Venice. When Paul lived in Alaska, I visited them in Fairbanks. At his funeral I eulogized him at Ft. Snelling national cemetery. A picture of Paul and Neva hangs on my family wall of remembrance in my home to this day. A picture of Paul and I when we were together in Di An South Vietnam in 1970 hangs in my office at home and my favorite restaurant in a booth I call my own at Kilroy´s Restaurant in Springfield Virginia. Paul was one of the smartest people I know. A patriot, a great soldier, a good human being, and the best friend I ever had. I miss him every day of my life.

Paul and Neva are often in my thoughts. In my volunteerism at the National Museum of the U.S. Army I ran into several fellow retirees who knew and rembered Paul. He is remembered by all those who had the priviledge of knowing him. Like all people you love in your life, the hurt of their loss gets easier over time, but never goes away. Their memories are always in tact. As Bil said, may they R.I.P., the living cannot.

Not a day goes by without thinking about Paul and Neva. I have a picture of them laughing and drinking wine which is framed and hung on my wall in my family gallery at home. I miss them terribly.

To me Paul was like a brother, and, I miss him, and think of him and Neva often. Not long after his funeral I found a picture of Paul and I when we served together in Vietnam, It was December, 1970 at a base camp called Di An which was south of Saigon. At that time it was the Headquarters for the 11th Armored Cavalry Regiment. For many years I ate at a family restaurant and sports bar called "Kilroys!" It was named after the famous rivot inspector in a Navy Shipyard called Kilroy of World War II fame. Naturally I like the place because it was decorated extensively with War posters and Troop pictures of our nations wars and honoring the men and women who served. Paul, Neva and I ate there on one of their visits. I had a copy of the photo of Paul and I had it framed. I took it to the owner of Kilroys and asked him if he would put it up in my favorite booth (number 43) and add it to his collection of veterans pictures and war memorabilia. He was glad to do it, and so it proudly hangs in Kilroys and I get to visit it frequently. I have that same picture and several others of Paul & Neva hanging on my family wall at home! I do miss them both, very much.

Paul was my platoon leader with the Burning Stogies (B Troop, 3/17 Air Cav). He taught me a lot back then and I grew to admire his leadership just as all the others in his gun platoon. Paul had a soft understated way of leading unless firmness was needed and then he had no trouble at all adopting that methodology. He was a warrior at heart with great courage and a deep desire to keep his platoon members safe. I miss him dearly and I will always have great regard for the short time I was privileged to be under his command.

Neva, I am the wife of a Spur, but I don't think he knew your husband. I am so sorry for your loss. My husband died from cancer in January, 2011. I have been where you are now and I know how hard it is for you. May God bless you and your family.

Paul was my platoon leader in Vietnam where he expertly lead the platoon of cobra gunships for Third Squadron, 17th Air Cavaly, Troop B (Burning Stogies). He was a very brave and thoughtful man. I, and most of the pilots there, was barely out of my teens on arrival and even though he was only a few years my senior, he made it known that his purpose in life was to make ours more secure and effective. He had a steady voice under the most intense situations that conveyed strength and competence. Paul was an exceptional pilot. I will always remember how he guided me and my fellow aviators. The world lost a wonderful man, but I am confident it is only temporary. it is my conviction that we will indeed be back together again. I offer my condolences to Neva and his family,
God be with all of you,

Paul was my platoon leader with the Silver Spurs in Vietnam; he was the quintessential warrior gentleman. Paul had a zest for life that belied his willingness to risk his for the sake of duty. In my three years in Vietnam he was the only platoon leader I ever had that never asked me to do anything he would not do. Flying on missions with Paul was always a great experience!
My regret is that I did not see him more often in the years after Vietnam. I was privileged to visit with Paul and his family a few year ago. He still had the same dynamic joy for life that he had in Vietnam.
The world is a lesser place for his passing.
Godspeed

We are saddened today as we just heard of Paul's passing.
We're so happy that we were able to spend time with Paul, Neva, Kim & Kayla when they were down last year.
We met Paul and Neva when we were living in Belgium in the 80s and always enjoyed socializing with them.
He was a man with a passion for life and enjoyed it to the fullest!
Neva and the family, you are in our thoughts and prayers!
Grace & peace,

The loss of a beloved spouse is a lonely journey that thankfully not everyone has to experience. I hope the days are kind to you, Neva, and that they grow kinder every day, I know Paul would want them to be so. Time is the biggest problem in grieving, yet time is also the biggest help. If there is anything you think I can do to assist you, please do not hesitate to ask.

When Paul was preparing for his admission to West Point, we spent some great times and talks together. He was a great favorite of my mother Mrs. Dorothy Kessler and our family. The world has lost a very wonderful man. Our family has always been very proud of our relationship with Paul and his family.

I haven't seen Paul in over 50 years, but I lived across the street from him when we were children. His sister was my best friend. He was the captain of the school safety patrol, the handsomest boy we had ever seen. I found out that there was a secret among us fourth-graders called the KPR Club, which stood for the Kiss Paul Renschen Club. I got a lot of points for being his neighbor. Even then he was special!

We pray that our loss is Heaven's gain. It is hard to believe that Paul has passed on. He has survived so much. There is so much to miss about Paul. We will always treasure the memories of the years we have known him. Thank you Paul for your service to God, Family, and Country. It has been an honor to have known you!
And, we send out a big hug to you Neva. God love you.

Twenty years of friendship and I grew to love Paul like a brother. He shared his family and made me and my wife feel like a part of the clan. Both of us being a two time Vietnam veteran we shared many stories, genuine comradeship and gave each other comfort over both fun, exciting and tough days. He was a fighter and lived life to its fullest. Snow machines were a passion and in such he found the spirit and excitement that freed him from health concerns. He was a kid in all that powder and some trips we shared were utterly remarkable for the effort involved. I will never forget the trek over the top with him. Likewise fishing was fun and he could cook a mean trout. I doubt that I will ever have a truer closer friend, military comrade, Vietnam veteran and neighbor. IT is MY honor to have known him and to have shared a great many happy moments with him, Neva, Dawn and Paul Jr. He was a great patriot and stood tall for all that is good. God speed Paul....you deserve to see the gates of heaven swing wide. I already miss you and you will live on here in my heart.

We love you both, and do not separate you in our thoughts. Love this photo - will try to find one of Tom and Paul skiing in Italy, too! They had great times together!
We will be thinking of you especially in the coming days, but also when we see something we would love to share with Paul - a funny, a joke, a comment...and realize we will not get something back from him. So, Neva - you will have to get all this 'stuff' - and we will expect a reply!:)
We love you both - in our thoughts and prayers and dreams...
