Robert (Bob) Cecil Martin passed away Thursday, March 14, 2013, at the Denali Center in Fairbanks.
Bob was born to Lawrence H. Martin and Opal V. Cecil on Nov. 5, 1954, in Centralia, Wash.
Bob grew up in Seattle and graduated in the class of 1973 from Ballard High School. He lived in the Ballard area, hanging out at the Rinky–Dink Tavern and working as a pearl diver at Ivar's Acres of Clams.
He also worked as a computer technician and moved to Dallas to install computer systems in federal prisons. In 1989, he moved to Alaska where he and his mother purchased a log cabin and lived there ever since.
While living in Alaska, Bob worked as a cook at Denny's Restaurant and a couple other restaurants in the area. He loved to play pool with the Gold Rush Pool Fools and hang-out at the American Legion hall.
In summer 2010, Bob suffered a stroke and was in and out of the Denali Center.
In late December, Bob went to the center again and remained until his passing. The family is extremely grateful for the wonderful care they took with Bob.
Bob is survived by his mother, Opal Martin; brother, Larry Martin, of Lynnwood, Wash; half-sister, Lori Lynn, and step-sister, Karen York, both of Vancouver, Wash.; and several nieces, nephews, grand-nieces and grand-nephews.
He will be interned at Sunset Memorial Gardens, in Chehalis, Wash., later this year.
