Rose Marie (Hutchison) de Lima passed away peacefully in the comfort of her home in Manley Hot Springs on Dec. 12, 2012, with grace, dignity and loving family in attendance. Born Nov. 21, 1931, to James and Helen Hutchison, Rose was one of 10 children, and a sixth generation Alaskan.
She married her husband, Don de Lima, in December of 1962, and they had three children: Jay Thomas, Teresa Marie Francesca and Peter Charles.
Rose grew up in Fairbanks and attended Main High School. She was an avid reader and loved the old library on First and Cowles, where she worked. Rose was also a numbers gal and did bookkeeping for Randall and Cox. In the late '60s, she, Don and their three children moved to Manley Hot Springs and embarked on a life in the "sticks," making everything from scratch and enjoying the fruits of the land; gardening and gold mining.
An avid bottle collector, clock restorer, bread baker, piano player, former post mistress and meticulous gold cleaner, Rose had incredible fortitude and beauty right to the very end. While Rose believed in keeping it simple, she had a miraculous ability to transform simple into artful and marvelous. She was not one to rock the boat; she believed "what's to be, will be."
Rose was preceded in death by her parents, James and Helen Hutchison; her sisters, Elaine, Mary Louise, Ruth and Marion; and her brothers, Jimmy, Harold and Harry. She is survived by her husband, Don, of 51 years; her sisters, Josephine (Bunky) and Geraldine (Gerry); her three children, eight grandchildren, many nieces, nephews and other family scattered about Alaska and Outside.
A celebration for the life of Rose will be held in the early summer in Fairbanks and in Manley Hot Springs. Rose will be buried with her parents and siblings at Northern Lights Memorial. Remembrance cards may be sent to the family at P. O. Box 56093 in Manley Hot Springs, AK, 99756.
Arrangements were entrusted to Chapel of Chimes Funeral Home.
