Ruth Nikolai Obituary
She was loved by many, especially by her nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles. She lived in Nikolai until she was 14, when she moved to Arctic Village, which she called her home. She was a longtime employee for the Yukon Flats School District. She worked with children all her life and she loved each and everyone of them with her whole heart. She enjoyed putting together puzzles and reading books. She enjoyed her subsistence lifestyle at every opportunity. She loved going for daily walks and visiting everyone, and she never said goodbye; she always said "see you later."
She will be remembered for her contagious laugh and generosity. She will be dearly missed. We love you, Aunty Ruthie. We were all blessed to have you in our lives for that short time you were with us.
She is survived by her longtime companion, Darryl "Scott" Clow; daughter, Rose Marie Alexia; son, Deshawn Jerome Cunningham; sisters, Virginia & Albert Gilbert Sr. and their children Yvonne and McGarrett and girls, Albert Jr. and Darren; Gayle and Steven and their children Adrien, Fiona and Travis, and Peter; Doreen and John, and their children Shawntelle, Devonne and Darius; Darryl and Lorraine, and their children Jessica and Galen, Cheyanne, Kobe and Kayla; her Godchild-niece, Tiffany Renee Yatlin; numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and friends of Arctic Village and Nikolai.
She was proceeded in death by her mother, Maryann Nikolai; father, Sam Nikolai; and stepfather, Sam Sam; Godchild Annie Marie James; brother, William Sam; grandparents Moses Sr. and Jenny Sam, Andrew and Mellissia Gregory; uncles, Timothy Sam, Moses Sam Jr., Isaac Sam, and Steve Lee; aunts, Sarah Hopson, Rose Lee, Lily and Bill Ficus, David Panigeo, Donald Sam, Little Moe, Timothy, Alexia and Linda Mann.
Funeral services will be Monday July 26th at 2 p.m. In Arctic Village at the Bishop Rowe Chapel.

I am so sorry to hear the news about Ruth. Her loving kindness will be missed by many.

I will greatly miss her, she was a great person. She had love, kindness, and most of all she was a very friendly person. My prayer goes out to her family, Scott, and most of all my little Buddy Aandoo. God bless you all. And we DID had a great funeral for her, here in Arctic Village. Mahsi' Choh to everybody, Amen.

I want to share my condolences with the family and friends of Ruth Ann Nikolai. She was a good friend of ours when she was living here in Nikolai so many years ago. We will always remember her.

My brother Scott i pray for your pain to ease and just know that we're here for you always. Ruth is no longer in any pain and she would want you to continue to raise Deshawn as best you can.Love him as much as possible and know that Ruth is there by your side.We will miss her dearly.My prayers go out to the entire family.Rest in peace Ruth.
