Steve and Anne were newly married and arrived in Fairbanks in August 1967. The town went under water the day after their arrival. They quickly felt they were part of the community as they helped clean up. Steve taught at North Pole Middle School, Ryan Middle School and Lathrop High School. He taught science, physical education and speech. He coached basketball and volleyball and served as a temporary assistant principal.
Summers found him flying, fishing, hunting or on the golf course and playing in tournaments. Following retirement the family moved to Phoenix where he pursued his dream of becoming a golf pro. He was the 1993 Arizona Senior Open champion and played in the U.S. Senior Open where, for nine holes, he was tied with Lee Trevino and Chi Chi Rodriquez for the lead.
Steve was a loving husband, father and grandfather and is survived by his wife of 47 years, Anne; daughters, Chelley Stockton and Jennifer Lackey, and granddaughter, Destry.
Burial will at the National Memorial Cemetery of Arizona, followed by a celebration reception.
