Verna Susie Beattus, 48, of Fairbanks, died unexpectedly Sept. 21, 2012, in North Pole.

Funeral services were held in Northway on Sept. 30, 2012, and officiated by Pastor Tom Teasdale.
Verna was born July 20, 1964, in Glennallen, to Andrew James and Mary Belle Tyone.
Verna spent time in Northway, Gulkana, Fairbanks and Allakaket. She was a homemaker and skilled in Native ways of subsistence living, fluent in her Native language, which was Upper Tanana Athabascan.
Her family states, "Verna was kind-hearted, caring and always had a smile for anyone she greeted."
She is survived by her husband, Linus Beattus; sons, Derek Peters, of Beaver Creek, Yukon Territory, and Matthew Tyone, of Fairbanks; daughters, Louise Tyone, of Gulkana, Mary Elle Tyone, of Anchorage, and Sunshine Peters, of Beaver Creek; father, Andrew James Tyone, of Tazlina; brothers, Jay Tyone, of Glennallen, and Bill Wayne Tyone, of Gulkana; sisters, Vivian Vincent, of Tazlina, Valda S. Okpik, of Anchorage, and Vanessa Bainter, of Kasilof, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Verna was preceded in death by her mother, Mary B. Tyone; grandparents, Bill and Laura John, and Jim and Annie Tyone.
Arrangements were entrusted to Fairbanks Funeral Home.
