Wanda Eckert, beloved mother and grandmother, passed away April 24, 2013. |
Wanda was born in Virginia, Poland, on August 20, 1927, to John and Albertina Tews.
She lost her twin sister, Emily, when she was 18 months old.
Wanda's family immigrated to Canada and she grew up in Alberta, Canada. She met her husband, Jack Eckert, in 1952, and traveled to Fairbanks in 1953, where Jack had a small cabin in Hamilton Acres.
Wanda and Jack raised two daughters and three sons in that home, which was improved when they shared in winning the Nenana Ice Classic jackpot in 1956.
Wanda was preceded in death by her husband of 37 years, Jack Eckert; her parents; and her brothers, Joseph and Walter Tews.
She is survived by her children, Frances Eckert Walker, Harvey Jack Eckert, Gerald Jene Eckert, Leona Eckert Kisner (James), Joseph Merle Eckert (Darla); and grandchildren, Clinton Walker, Nicholas Walker and Courtney Kisner.
A visitation for Wanda will be from 2-3 p.m. Sunday, April 28, 2013, at Chapel of Chimes Funeral Home, followed by the funeral service at 3 p.m.
Arrangements were entrusted to Chapel of Chimes Funeral Home.
