Our beloved mother, grandmother and friend went to be with our Lord and Savior on
Feb. 8, 2009, with her children and grandchildren by her side.
Ellen Demit was born on May 11, 1913, to John and Eva Julius at Old Chena Village. At 3 months of age, Ellen was adopted into the Upper Tanana area to Old Luke and his wife, and after their passing, she was raised by Blind Jimmy and his wife, Saline, until she married her husband, Frank Felix, of Ketchumstock/Tanacross.
Ellen and Frank resided in Healy Lake where they had their eight children. During the influenza epidemic of the early 1900s, Ellen and her husband relocated to Big Gerstle to save their three remaining children. After the death of her husband, Frank, Ellen moved to Dot Lake with her three children.
She later married Herbie Demit of Northway. She settled in Tok in the cabin that her son built for her. Grandma Ellen enjoyed her employment throughout the years at the South Fork Lodge, Fortymile and Tok Civic Center.
She will forever be remembered as "Grandma Ellen" to everyone in the Upper Tanana area. Grandma Ellen's door was always open and all were welcomed with love, kindness and generosity.
Every year, Grandma Ellen always looked forward to Christmas; she enjoyed watching her grandchildren open gifts and the frequent trips she made to Healy Lake, the place she called home.
She was preceded in death by her parents; adoptive parents; her husbands; her children, Mary, Ena, Alfred and Talbert Felix; her brothers, Patrick and Lawrence Joe; sister Helen David; and her great-granddaughter, Sasha Rae Paul.
She is survived by her daughters, Agnes Henry and Daisy Northway (Harold); grandchildren, Marylou Paul (Franklin), Lee Henry (Sharon), Joseph Beaver, Ena Beaver, Darren Felix (Jodi), Darrell Felix, Dedre Felix (Keith), Clinton Northway (Jen), Gordon Northway, Adena Albert, Kenny Felix (Lila), Alfred Felix (Freeda) and Monica Garcia (Abraham); 29 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
A funeral will be held at the Tok gymnasium at 10 a.m. on Friday, Feb. 13, and Grandma will then be taken to her final resting place in Healy Lake.

DAisy, Just want you to know you are in my thoughts and prayers. i can't imagine your loss. I miss her so much. Ellen was a part of my entire life, i remember her taking care of us when we were little, then working at the school with her in the kitchen and then later with us at the senior center for YEARS. I remember when she finally let me pick her up for work and would only walk home from work. (she was in her eighties at that). I don't know anyone else who worked so many years. She tried patiencely to teach me her language and many other things. She was a very classy lady. Her faith was evident to all who spent anytime with her. I feel very blessed to have known her and will never forget her. Love Nichol

To All of Ellen Demit's Family
My heart was broken when I heard of Ellen's passing. She was so very sweet and always gave me her special hug and we would discuss how long it had been since seeing each other. She was one of the first people I meet in 1973 when we moved to Tok and I worked with her at Parker House she was always full of fun. My thoughts and prayers are with you all, please remember she is not in pain anymore. We will all miss her alot.

We knew Ellen from lab and x-ray. She was always so sweet and smiled whenever she came in. She always gave us a hug. She brought back memories of my grandma who passed away in 2003. We are so sorry for your loss. Your family is in our prayers. Michelle Blair, Pam Trottier & Char Slater

Daisy, Agnes and Family; Our sincere sympathy to you and yours. We have had such a good time with Aunt Ellen-during our time at 40 Mile and thoroughout my life. When I needed someone during my mother and sister's potlatch she was there. Daisy, we often don't say when we meet but we love you and are thinking of you during these times! Knowing that Auntie is with her family is comforting. We shall miss her very much.

Daisy, Agnes, and families:
My heart is broken as I heard that Gramma Ellen has passed on. Knowing that she is with her loved ones and the Lord she loved and served is comforting and that she no longer suffers from this earthly saddness. I am honored to have known Gramma and to have worked side by side with her at the Senior site. She taught my girls and I so much. I will always remember her laugh, but also her teachings in perserving her rich Native culture and traditions. My prayers and thoughts are with you and your families that have intertwined with mine over the years. You are family. May God watch over you all and lay his comforting hand upon you in the following days to come.
