Henry Andrew Zawacki passed away peacefully May 11, 2014 with his family by his side.|
Henry was born Feb. 24, 1923, in Norwich, Connecticut, to Andrew and Bertha Zawacki. He attended Norwich Free Academy, then worked as a machinist for Pratt and Whitney, and later Nielson Tool and Die in Hartford, Connecticut. He met Frances Stula in 1951 and they were married in 1956. A year later, they moved to Fairbanks where they remained until his passing.
Henry was a teamster and shop steward and worked for Denali Transportation, Garrison Fast Freight and Sealand for 27 years. He owned and operated Fielding Lake Lodge for eight years. His hobbies were downhill skiing, fishing, hunting and boating, and he taught those skills to his children and grandchildren.
Henry was preceded in death by his parents, Andrew and Bertha Zawacki, and brother Rudy.
Henry is survived by his wife of 58 years, Frances; daughter, Christine Phyillaier (Richard), of Colorado; son, Wayne Zawacki, of Anchorage; grandson, Geoffrey McLean, of Fairbanks; granddaughter, Alicia McLean, and great-granddaughter, Izabella, of Colorado; sisters, Viola Holmes, of New York, Irene Zawacki, of Hartford, Connecticut, and Eleanor Friery, of New York; brothers, Edward Zawacki (Teresa) and Robert Zawacki (Betty), of Farmington, Connecticut, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Mass will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, May 16, at Immaculate Conception Church.
