Ronald Gene Thomas Obituary
Ronald Gene Thomas, age 58, passed away Feb. 4, 2014 at Providence Medical Center in Anchorage.
Ron was born in Fairbanks on May 25, 1955, son of Elsie Nora Simpson and Chester Clark Thomas.
He was born and raised in Fairbanks, attended local publics schools Denali Elementary, Main and Ryan Junior High, and Lathrop High.
He spent summers in Chicken on their homestead and talked of this greatly.
Ron graduated from the Seward Skill Center with a certificate in food service in 1972, the University of Alaska Anchorage with an associate degree in food service technology in 1975.
Fulfilling his passion for 16 years in the food service industry, he served throughout Alaska including the North Slope, advancing from cook to assistant chef and head cook to food manager.
His expertise lead him to six years as assistant personnel manager for Doyon Universal Services.
Ron retired from his professional career due to his health.
He was a heart transplant recipient in August 1995 and a kidney transplant recipient in December 2003.
Ron resided in Anchorage and married his loving wife, Katherine Yagie, in January 2003 who he had met in 1987. 
He was preceded in death by his parents; mother, Elsie N. Simpson, and father, Chester C. Thomas, and his grandparents, Mary and Engbret Johansen. 
He is survived by his wife, Katherine Yagie; daughter, Charlene Yagie; grandson, Ty Gabriel Kosbruk; brothers and their spouses, Chester and Edith Thomas, Robert and Geraldine Thomas, Charles Thomas and Terry Thomas; sister and brother-in-law, Joyce and Dave Decarufel; his aunt, Agnes Purdy; uncle, Edward Johansen, and cousin, Ken Purdy, from Fairbanks; and nieces, nephews and their families.
He enjoyed new foods and mastering the favorites, and loved a good afternoon with friends and quality time with family.
He shared his love for western movies and the classics.
He enjoyed reading and music. His favorite sports to watch were boxing and football. Go Seahawks!
He was always open to share his experiences and knowledge so that the next may learn.
Visitation was from 1-2 p.m. with funeral services at 2 p.m. on Feb. 15 at Evergreen Memorial Chapel, 737 E. St., Anchorage, Alaska. Pastor Rick Lyon officiated the service.
Ron will be laid to rest in his hometown of Fairbanks. Graveside service at 2 p.m. Thursday, June 5 at birch Hill Cemetery. Rev. Fisher will officiate.
