Obituary Condolences

Surrounded by his loving family, Kit R. Carstensen, 69, passed away at 5:36 a.m., June 27, 2014, at home, after his courageous battle with cancer.
Kit was the son of the late C.E. (Clarence) and Helen D. Carstensen (Goodhand). He is survived by his wife, Merri J. Carstensen (Allison); son and daughter-in-law, Christopher and Melinda, of Raymond, Ohio; daughter and son-in-law, Mischlynne and Michael Vollrath, of Marysville, Ohio; step-daughter and son-in-law, Kimberly (Slover) and Jonathan, of Floyd County, Virginia; six grandchildren, Justin, and partner, Courtnee; Kasey, Kadie, Megan, Matthew and Gus; two great-grandchildren, Ava and Rowan; two brothers and their wives, David and Lordice, of Corona, California, and Richard and Carol, of Sidney, Ohio; and his Sheltie, Mya.
In 1963, Kit graduated from Troy High School and attended the University of Cincinnati and Wright State University, ultimately earning his bachelor of science in business marketing from Wright State later in life. Kit proudly served in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1967 to 1971. He was a Vietnam veteran. As a civilian, he worked in mechanical engineering at various places, including Hobart, Goodrich and Interflex in Troy, Ohio. He worked for Boyd Coddington (Boyd's Billet Wheels) in California, feeding his love of hot rods and muscle cars.
His interest in airplanes took him to McDonnell Douglas in California and on to Boeing in the state of Washington.  In 1991, Kit and Merri ventured to Alaska where they assumed management of a family automotive business, fed Kit's passion for fishing and the great outdoors and made their home for 20 years. In 2011 Kit and Merri retired to Troy, Ohio, to be near family and friends, a decision that could not have been timelier.
Memorial services with military honors presented by Veterans Memorial Honor Guard will be held at 7 p.m., and visitation hours will be held prior, from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, July 2, at Baird Funeral Home, of Troy, Ohio. Rev. John Shelton will officiate.
