Stella Sam, 83, beloved mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend entered the presence of the Lord at

A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m., Saturday, June 9, 2012, in Tetlin.
Stella was born in Tetlin March 15, 1928, to the late Paul and Annie Joe.
Her family states, "We all knew her as a kind-hearted, loving person. She was strong with the Lord, and always wanting what was best for everyone. She always had a warm heart. We will greatly miss her smile that would melt your heart."
Stella set an example for the community by obtaining her G.E.D. at age 54. During the 1970s, Stella worked for the washerteria clerk for about 10 years. She worked at the school, cooking for the kids until she retired, and she also cooked for the elders. She was famous for her cheese surprise.
Stella enjoyed hunting, trapping, fishing, camping, berry picking, gathering tree roots for making birch baskets, and gathering roots and muskrat food. She loved to sew with beads, crochet, and knit for her kids and grandkids.
In her spare time, she loved to go visiting her friends and joking around. Her greatest joy was spending time with her family, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She taught us culture and the traditional way of life. No matter what went on in life she was always smiling.
Stella Sam is survived by her sons, Gary (Marlene), Billy (Anne), and Norman; daughters, Clara (John) Joe, Natalie (James) Wright Sr., and Caroline; brothers, Eddie Joe, Lee, Joe Sr.; and sister, Theda.
She also is survived by 24 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
In addition to her parents, Stella was preceded in death by her husband, David Sam; sons, Gilbert Sam Sr. and William Sam; grandkids, Winema Captain, Stella Joe, Ronald Joe; sisters, Mary, Clara, Nancy, Lily, and Rika; and brothers, John, Fred, and Alex.
Arrangements are entrusted to Fairbanks Funeral Home.
