Emily Sam, 84, of Huslia, passed away Oct. 20, 2012, surrounded by her husband of 65 years, Tony Sam, Sr.; her 13 children, more than 70 grandchildren, more than 68 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren, and her friends.

She was born Dec. 3, 1927, in Henshaw, Alaska. She is survived by her husband; daughters, Gertie E., Eliza N., S. Joyce, Irene P., Elsie V., and Valerie P.; her sons, Virgil Sr., Darrell Sr., Tony Jr., Melvin, Glen, Emil and Ron Y.
She was preceeded in death by her youngest son, Leonard; oldest son, Kenneth; daughter, Darlene, and her son, Travis, whom Emily also raised.
Emily and Tony lived a subsistence lifestyle. They would travel by boat in the summer and snowmachine in the winter to outlying villages for different activities. They celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary in June of this year. Emily was excellent at beadwork, crochet, knitting, skin-sewing, moosehide tanning and breadmaking with her grandchildren.
Her love for her family and friends was never-ending. She made each of us feel very special. She will be greatly missed by all those who knew her, but her beautiful smile and laughter will forever be remembered in our hearts.
Emily was laid to rest at the Huslia Cemetary on Oct. 22, 2012.
