Kenneth Marsden Bluhm Obituary
Kenneth Marsden Bluhm, 51, passed away Nov. 30, 2012, of natural causes in Ester, Alaska.
A potluck celebration will be held from 5:30-7 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 12, 2012, at the Golden Eagle Saloon in Ester.
Ken was born in Salt Lake City, Utah, on Oct. 13, 1961. He attended Brighton High School and later furthered his education by earning a bachelor's degree in economics from the University of Utah. Ken served a two-year mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Louisville, Kentucky Mission.
He had a great skill and love for cooking, and he followed that interest by working and cooking for many restaurants in the Salt Lake City area. He moved to Fairbanks, where he became an executive chef at several restaurants there, including the seasonally-opened Salmon Bake.
Ken loved to read and like his father, treasured books. He enjoyed reading about history and had a special interest in the events of the Civil War. He loved sports and loved to follow his favorite teams.
He was a poet … he was a writer. His poetry was beautifully personal and expressed his kind heart and tender feelings. Ken also had a very strong spirit and wasn't afraid to give his point of view. He was extremely loyal and many benefited from his loyal friendship. His laugh will always be remembered by those who loved and knew him … it was a contagious laugh that would create a ripple effect in any situation. He loved Alaska, its midnight sun and northern lights, the serenity, and the people.
Ken was preceded in death by his father, Harry Pollei Bluhm.
Ken is survived by his two children, son, Jonathan (Rebecca) Bluhm; daughter, Molly Bluhm; grandson, Carter Allen Bluhm; his mother, Louise Marsden Bluhm; brother, Gary (DeeAnne) Bluhm; sister, Carolyn (Gary) Yurkovich; sister, Beverly (Greg) Hansen; sister, Colleen (Dave) Hancock, and many nephews and nieces who all loved him dearly.
Arrangements were entrusted to Fairbanks Funeral Home.
