Delena Ann (Stone) Mickowski, 53, passed away Jan. 27, 2013, at her home in North Pole after a 17-year battle with cancer. |
Delena was the youngest child born to Elmer and Toni Stone in Portland, Ore., on Jan. 24, 1960.
The Stone family moved to Alaska in May 1964. Delena attended University Park Elementary School, Ryan Middle School and West Valley High School.
Delena had a special bond with animals and was a volunteer at Raven Veterinary Clinic in North Pole for several years.
Delena was an avid rock collector and loved receiving rocks as gifts. She loved goldmining and spent hours traipsing up and down the hillsides around Fox in her search for treasure.
She made the best apple pie and pumpkin cookies! Delena loved receiving gifts and would carefully unwrap each one slowly, savoring the moment.
Delena is survived by her husband of 31 years, Randy Mickowski; their beloved cat, Simon, who was her constant companion; her parents, Elmer and Toni Stone, of Fairbanks; sister, Jeannie (Mark) Bray, of Delta Junction; brother, James (Huda) Stone, of Beirut, Lebanon; nieces, Heather Scott, Emily Hayes, Alyse (Andre') Dunlap, Nadine and Dina Stone; nephew, Justin (Erin) Otness; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, great-nieces and nephews; and her beloved friends, Kaeko and Candy.
A celebration of life is planned from 1-4 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 3, 2013, at 1702 Cosgrave Drive. For directions, call 388-4994.
In lieu of flowers, a donation to your favorite animal charity is suggested.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Chapel of Chimes Funeral Home.
