Herman H. Demit, 72, passed away on Monday Jan. 28, 2013, in Fairbanks after a long illness.|
Herman was born on June 26, 1940, in Northway.
He was a lifelong Alaskan but also spent some time in California.
He worked construction in Alaska, as a mechanic for Tip Top Chevrolet and also as a firefighter.
While in California, he was employed by S&W Food Processing.
Herman enjoyed hunting and the traditional Alaskan lifestyle. He was a really quiet person, but had many, many friends.
He was also a private person. Herman will be missed by his family and friends. He was a No. 1 fan of Elvis Presley, so much that he had the nickname of "Elvis."
Herman is survived by his sister, Sherry Barnes of Northway; brothers, Glenn (Cora) Demit of Northway and Carl Demit Sr. of Northway; and numerous cousins and relatives.
He was preceded in death by Joe C. Demit and Laura Northway Demit.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m., Sunday, Feb. 3, 2013, at Northway Community Hall. Pastor Tom Teasdale will officiate.
Following the services, burial will be held at Northway Cemetery.
A traditional potlatch will follow at the community hall.
