Maggie (Maggie Ts’al) Roberts Obituary
Our beloved mother, sister, aunt, grandmother and dearest friend Maggie Roberts went home to the Lord on Dec. 26, 2013.
Maggie was born April 30, 1935, to Johnny and Sarah Frank. She was raised by her parents at Goldcamp near Venetie. She was raised in the subsistence lifestyle. Maggie was a teacher, storyteller and a wonderful listener to everyone around her. Above all, Maggie was a wife, companion, mother and grandmother.
Maggie Roberts was the first female chief for the first women's council of Venetie. She fought against drugs and alcohol in the village.
She taught her children and grandchildren about the traditional and subsistence way of life as she raised them. She continued to live this way throughout her life. Maggie was a teacher; she traveled to numerous villages to teach children and adults alike. She worked for the Yukon Flats School District as a traditional culture teacher. She taught skin tanning, beading and traditional survival. She loved to teach her traditional values to the people around her.
