Sanford "Sans" Howard
Fuquay-Varina
Sanford Howard, 91, passed away on July 2, 2013, at the Wake County Hospice House in Raleigh, NC. He was born in Sharp County, Arkansas on January 14, 1922, the son of the late Holly Jackson Howard and Aurora Christenberry Howard.
He is preceded in death by sisters, Chloe, Allie Jean, Marie and Janet and by his brother, Taylor.
Sanford is survived by his wife of 61 years, Camilla "Sue" Moss Howard; daughter, Judith Ann Howard, and son-in-law, Martin L. Howard, from Fuquay-Varina, NC and their daughters, Alyssa, from NYC and Danielle, from Fuquay-Varina, NC, and son, William Bradley Howard, and daughter-in-law, Linda Cronkite Howard, and their sons, Ryan and Reid, all from The Woodlands, TX.; brothers, Joseph of Austin, TX and Harry of Little Rock, Arkansas; and sister, Emily Sue of Dallas, TX.
Sans will be remembered as an intelligent and godly man who was a devoted husband, father, and doting grandfather. After serving in World War II he graduated from the University of Arkansas with an accounting degree and moved to Houston, TX. He became a Certified Public Accountant in 1952 and co-founded the CPA firm of Pitcock & Howard. He then became a partner with the international accounting firm of Pannell Kerr Foster. A highly respected professional, during his more than 30 years with that firm, he rose to the position of senior partner. He held the position of managing partner for the firm's New Orleans and Atlanta offices.
Sanford will be remembered as an active church member and community leader. After moving to Fuquay-Varina in 2002, he joined the Fuquay-Varina United Methodist Church, where he was active in many activities, including his Sunday School class and the Walking Club. He was also a member of the Exchange Club of Fuquay-Varina.
A memorial service celebrating the life of Sanford Howard will be held on Friday, July 5, 2013 at the Fuquay-Varina United Methodist Church in Fuquay-Varina at 11 a.m. in the sanctuary. Visitation with family members will be held at the church before the service, commencing at 10 a.m..
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to either of the following: Hospice of Wake County, 250 Hospice Circle, Raleigh, NC 27607 or the Fuquay-Varina United Methodist Church Building Fund, 100 Judd Parkway, Fuquay-Varina, NC, 27526.
