Benjamin L. McSwiney, Jr.
RALEIGH
Benjamin Lloyd McSwiney, Jr. passed away peacefully on November 2, 2013 surrounded by his loving family. Ben was born June 16, 1950 in Madison, Tennessee and was the eldest of six children born to Mildred Corene Moore and Benjamin Lloyd McSwiney, Sr.
He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Linda Brosmore McSwiney; his three sons, Michael (Shannon) of Fuquay-Varina; Timothy (Lisa) of Raleigh and Terrence (Cori) of Raleigh; Four grandchildren, Katelyn, Sean, Kendall and Logan. Ben will also be deeply missed by his sister, Pamela (Stephen) Miefert of Covington, Kentucky; and his four brothers, James (Jodi) of Beavercreek, Ohio; Jeffrey, of Knoxville, Tennessee; Gary (Yong Oak) of Korea; Lawrence (Susan) of Covington, Kentucky.
After graduating in 1968 from Holmes High School in Covington, Kentucky, Ben worked with Mead Products in Cincinnati before joining the military. Ben served five years in the United States Air Force as a communication specialist, eventually obtaining the rank of Staff Sergeant.
After his discharge from the Air Force Ben moved on to become a computer analyst at the Mead Corporation in Dayton, Ohio. He would eventually work his way up to Operations Manager for Meade Products in St. Joseph Missouri before leaving to chase his entrepreneurial dreams in 1983. At this point he started his own envelope manufacturing company in Loganville, Georgia which he eventually merged with Eastern Envelope in Fairfax, Virginia in 1986.
In 1988 he became the General Manager at Williamhouse-Regency in Connellsville, Pennsylvania where he remained until 1991 when he became President & CEO of Whitestar Graphics in Spring Grove, IL. In 1993 at the age of 43 he moved onto the role of President and CEO of Duplex Products in Sycamore, IL. His next and final business role would land him at Bell & Howell Mail Processing Systems in Durham, NC where he retired as President and CEO.
After retirement he volunteered his time helping Duke University raise funds for Parkinson's research.
The family will receive friends at Bright Funeral Home, 405 S. Main Street Wake Forest, NC on Tuesday, November 5th from 6-8 PM. Funeral services will be at Bright Funeral Home on Wednesday, November 6th at 11:00 AM with burial in Pine Forest Memorial Gardens.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in Ben's memory may be sent to: Duke University Parkinsons Disease Research and mailed to: Department of Neurology, Duke University Medical Center, Durham, NC 27710.

I love you dad. You will always be an inspiration to me, and I'm so sorry you couldn't get more out of life. We will take care of mom, and move forward just like you would want us to do. Keep an eye on me from time to time, and keep me in line. The kids love and miss you, and wish you peace and happiness. Rest in peace Big Ben.
