David Bamford Obituary

David Arthur Bamford
Raleigh
David Arthur Bamford (known as Dave), 72, passed away peacefully on June 28, 2013 after a courageous battle with cancer. Dave was born on April 10, 1941 in Dover-Foxcroft, Maine and was the only child of Herschel and Pearl Bamford. He served in the Air Force from 1959-1963, attended Wentworth Institute in Boston, and was a graduate of the University of Tennessee in Knoxville with a degree in engineering. He worked as an electrical engineer with IBM for 33 years before retiring. He was a ham radio operator and enthusiast for over 50 years and enjoyed communicating with many other ham radio operators around the world. He loved sports, especially UT Vols football and the Red Sox, and coached little league baseball and soccer. He was a group leader in Men's Bible Study Fellowship for 11 years, was a member of the Gideon's International, and was an active member and served with the benevolence ministry at The Church of the Apostles.
He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Florida, his son David and wife Tracy and his granddaughter Aubrey, and his daughter Lisa. Dave left a beautiful legacy of kindness and generosity. He will be remembered as a husband, father, grandfather, and friend that was loving, compassionate, trusting, gentle, considerate, full of integrity and patience, and a loyal protector and provider. He never forgot a birthday, anniversary, holiday, or special occasion. His life defined mercy and grace towards others.
A service will be held in his honor on Tuesday, July 2 at The Church of the Apostles (located at 333 Church at North Hills Street, Raleigh, NC 27609) at noon.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to The Church of the Apostles' benevolence ministry. Please send checks to the church address provided above with "benevolence ministry" in the memo.

Dear Ms Bamford....I just heard of Dave's passing yesterday while down at the beach and wanted to express sincere apologies to you. I had the privlidge just a few times of talking with Dave while building a home on MarshWalk across from yours and he had a peace and kindness about him that was immediately evident. I had the privilege to know Dave for about 10 years in our Bible Study. His empty seat is a reminder of our great loss. But we get to spend eternity with him and it will be one more thing to look forward to. I extend my sincere condolences to the family. Dave was a truly great man.

Although we have only known Dave for a few short years, it didn't take long to see the light of God in all that he did. His love for Florida and his family was apparent and nothing made him happier than having them all around. Little Aubrey made his whole face light up! As Dave's illness progressed, so did his absolute faith in our God and Savior. We feel blessed to have known this wonderful servant and have seen a glimpse of God through Dave's life! We surround Florida and the family with our love and prayers at this difficult time and we rejoice in the knowledge that Dave is with his heavenly Father this day!

Dear Bamford family,

I feel as I knew your beloved David even though we never met because of the special bond I have developed with daughter, Lisa. I work with Lisa, but our relationship has become very special over the 7 months that I've known her. We have become "kindred" souls. It wasn't long after I met Lisa, that I found out about her father's condition and joined "Dave's" Facebook team. Through getting to know Lisa at work and reading her beautiful postings and her family and friends' postings, I know Dave must have been an extraordinary man who left an amazing legacy of warmth, love, peace and caring about and for all living things, but most especially his family. I also heard about a man with a tremendous sense of humility and a faith in a higher power that was the guiding light in his life and over time, it became the same beacon for his family and those close around him. His spirit will be with all of us, even those of us who never got to know him in this life. Lisa, I look forward to meeting your family and experiencing Dave's presence as we continue through life. May you and your family feel the peace he is in now and the love that you all shared together.

My thoughts and prayers are with you Florida, Lisa and David in this most difficult time. I have many fond memories of Dave and all that has been said could not be more true. He was one of the finest people I had the pleasure of knowing. Spoke with him at the 50th class reunion and he invited me and my husband, Tom Zilinsky to NC. Remember our trip to UT to watch a football game with Allen and I lived in Raleigh? Enjoyed all our times together and will miss Dave. Love you you all, Dorna Varnum Zilinsky

We send our sincere sympathy to all of you. Our friendship goes back to the days our children attended Friendship Christian School. Michael and David were good friends. We remember those days with fond memories and are thankful to God for the friendships we made. May God continue to give you abiding love and peace during the days ahead. Our thoughts and prayers are with each of you.

I knew Dave through our Friday Morning Bible Study. He was a true Christian man and one of the finest men and truest friends I have ever know. We will miss him, his quiet wisdom and cheerful example. His strong Christian faith will continue to be an example to all of us. Our temporary loss is Heaven's great gain. I love you Brother.

Dave is truly loved by all who knew him. He was the brother and friend of all. So filled with humility. I miss him so. He delighted in reflecting on William Bendix and the Life of Riley. Dave lit up when he shared an expression that depicted a story of unusual discomfort. He grabbed it out of the air from William Bendix and said, "What a revolting development this is!" Dave was in a Friday Morning Fellowship Bible Study with us for many years. He always gave us a warm and enduring hug as only Dave could. I always felt as though I was the only person in the room when with Dave. He listened and shared his heart with everyone as though you were that only person in the world. Whatever Dave had and enjoyed, Dave wanted you to have some of it too. In fact, Dave would find a way to share it with you. Dave is in heaven now and well again. I love you Dave. We all do and are here for your family in every way possible. Your loving brother Ben
