Bobby Allen WAKE FOREST Robert W. "Bobby" Allen, Jr., 59, died Wednesday morning, April 16, 2014. He was born in Wake County and was a 1973 graduate of Wake Forest-Rolesville High School. Bobby was a life-long member of Wake Forest United Methodist Church and was a long-time employee of The Wake Weekly. Funeral services will be held at 2 o'clock, Saturday afternoon, April 19, 2014, at Wake Forest United Methodist Church with the Rev. Donald Warren officiating. Bobby is survived by his father, Robert W. "Bob" Allen, Sr. of Wake Forest; brothers, Greg Allen of Wilmington, and Rev. Jimmy Allen and wife, Ginger, and Todd Allen and wife, Clellie, of Wake Forest; 10 nieces and nephews: Davis Allen and wife, Elizabeth; David Allen, Olivia Allen, Jonathan Allen, Ruth Allen, Benjamin Allen, Margaret Allen, Mary Nancy Allen, Caitlin Allen and Caroline Allen. He was preceded in death by his mother, Margaret "Peggy" Allen. Bobby played football at WF-R High School and continued to be an avid fan throughout his life. He enjoyed writing music and playing guitar. John Richard Bilcheck October 11, 1946 - April 11, 2014 Raleigh John Richard Bilcheck, 67, died after a prolonged illness at his Raleigh home in the embrace of his wife, and surrounded by many who loved him, including friends and his adored pets. John is survived by his wife, Melinda Purdy-Bilcheck, daughters, Leslie Davis and her husband, Brad, daughter Elizabeth Bilcheck, and son, Christopher Bilcheck, and beloved grandsons, Jack, Joe and Harry Davis, and sister-in-laws, brother-in-laws, nieces and nephews whom he cherished. John was born in Poughkeepsie, NY on October 11, 1946 to Mary Zaletta and John Bilcheck. He graduated from Lady of Lourdes High School and received Bachelor's degree from the SUNY University system. He wore the uniform proudly in the naval service on the USS Wasp from 1968 through 1974. He returned to work in Poughkeepsie at IBM. In 1979, he transferred to IBM RTP, where he met and married his best friend and love of his life, Melinda, in 1989. John retired from IBM after 30 years as an HR Manager. He started his second career with North Carolina State government as a manager for the ESC where he worked for over a decade. John loved music of all genres, playing the piano and singing 60's songs, especially the Beatles and Stones, although he could never carry a tune. He excelled as an athlete throughout his life and always cut a fine figure. John recalled with joy the years he spent coaching his children's soccer teams, trips to Disney with three generations, and everything surrounding his family. He also loved poker games and bridge, and started playing chess as a youth with his father, completing his last match two days before his death. John loved to travel with Melinda, spend time with his grandsons, and visit family in the tri-state areas. He also was an avid reader, often finishing several books in a week. John had a particular penchant for history that he shared with his grandson, Jack. Jack asked to be at his grandfather's bedside in the last hours. John will be remembered by the many who loved his as a deeply thoughtful man, a magnanimous spirit, and a kind, gentle soul. He accomplished much in his life, but never did learn how to tell a good joke. The family wished to thank Lisa Ginsburg and her wonderful team at Hospice of Wake County, their many friends and extended families. Visitation will be held on Monday, April 21, 2014 from 6:00 – 9:00pm at Mitchell Funeral Home, 7209 Glenwood Ave., Raleigh, NC. A funeral mass will be held on Tuesday, April 22, 2014, at 11:00am at St. Raphael The Archangel Catholic Church, 5801 Falls of Neuse Road, Raleigh, NC. As desired, memorial contributions may be made to the wonderful care at Hospice of Wake County, 250 Hospice Circle, Raleigh, NC, or to any animal rescue of your choice.
