Carolyn Van Wagoner December 26, 1939 - May 27, 2016 Bedford, VA Carolyn Van Wagoner, 76, of Bedford, Va. passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by loved ones on Friday, May 27, 2016. Born Tuesday, December 26, 1939 in Norfolk, Virginia, she was a daughter of the late Bryce Wagoner and the late Frances Williams Wagoner. Left to cherish Carolyn's memories are her loving husband, Donald Woods; son, Jack Mann and wife, Lisa; daughters, Holly Layne, Laura Carrington and husband, John, Leslie Hicks and husband, Kirk; five grandchildren, Jason, Jessica, Jake, Isaac, Sarah Frances; four great-grandchildren; brother, Ronald Wagoner and wife, Jenny; sister, Sheryle Hill and husband, Tui; special friend Ann Ship; beloved friend and caretaker, Valerie Agee. Her children will remember the loving, devoted mother who was always there for them. Carolyn was the dedicated manager of her family's business, the Peaks of Otter Lodge. She enjoyed traveling, especially to the beach with her girlfriends and family. Even though she suffered from physical pain, her spirit remained bright and bubbly and touched everyone who knew her. A Celebration of Carolyn's Life will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, June 1, 2016 at Tharp Funeral Chapel, Bedford with the Rev. Donnie G. Glass officiating. The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Tuesday, May 31, 2016, at Tharp Funeral Home. A graveside service for close friends and family will be held at 3 p.m. Friday, June 3, 2016 in Oakwood Cemetery, 701 Oakwood Avenue, Raleigh, N.C. 27601. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Bedford Life Saving & First Aid Crew, Bedford Life Saving Crew, P.O. Box 161, Bedford, Va. 24523. Azzi, Kathleen Marie - Raleigh  
Kathleen Marie Azzi March 19, 1956 - May 26, 2016 Raleigh Kathleen (Baum) Azzi, 60, died peacefully at home on 5/26/16 after living with ALS for a year. She was born in W. Springfield, MA and moved to Apex, NC in 1988. She worked in marketing in several local engineering firms up until her diagnosis with ALS. She was at her happiest when she was tending her gardens and out in nature. She met her husband, Anthony Azzi, and they were joyously wed in 2004 and resided in N. Raleigh. She leaves behind her loving husband, Anthony; two loving daughters, Nicole Stewart and her husband, Les, and Sara Steffen and her husband, Brent; a stepson, Nikolas Azzi, and his wife, Shannon; and two grandchildren, Evan Baum Stewart and Liza Rose Stewart. There will be a Celebration of Life service on Tuesday, 5/31/16 at 4pm at Renaissance Funeral home in Raleigh. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the ALS Jim Catfish Hunter Chapter or to the Food Bank of Central and Eastern NC. Condolences: rfhr.com

Baker, Johnie Royster - Willow Spring  
Johnie Royster Baker January 25, 1928 - May 26, 2016 Willow Spring J. Royster Baker, age 88, passed away peacefully May 26, 2016 in the old Baker homeplace, the same home he was born in on Johnny Baker Road surrounded by family. Royster was primarily a farmer, but was also a building contractor, tobacco contractor, Deputy Sergeant-at-Arms for the NC Senate, crop hail adjuster, to name just a few of his professions. He was a hard worker who was never idle. He was a great teller of stories of his life's adventures including his stint in the Merchant Marines at the end of World War II. He was an avid golfer with several holes in one and also loved to dance. Royster had a unique sense of humor, was a people-person who never met a stranger. Family meant the world to him and he took pride in all of our accomplishments Royster was predeceased by his parents Johnie Hardy and Della Pollard Baker, brothers Wyatt, Reamus, Whalon, Wayne, Julius, and Cecil Baker and sisters Allie Lee Baker, Esther Stephenson and Mavis Gunter. Royster was also predeceased by his son-in-law Kenneth G. Lessard, infant grandson Kenneth G. Lessard, Jr. and a step-grandson Byron Cherry. Royster is survived by his wife of twenty years, Shirley Raynor Williams Baker, his brother Lester Ray Baker (Earleene), and sister-in-law Ollie Ruth Baker. Also surviving is his first wife Jacqueline Hicks and their children Janet Baker Lessard, Emily Baker Currin (Richard), and Jennifer Baker Stephenson (Kenneth). Also surviving is his brother-in-law, Mike Raynor. Surviving grandchildren are Eva Smith (Casey), Ruth Holcomb (Ray), Melanie Lessard (Ashley Everington), and Kevin Stephenson. Surviving great grandchildren are Carson and Nate Smith, Baker Holcomb, and Gavin Everington. Surviving Step Children are Phyllis Williams Holroyd (Doug), Angela Williams Sessoms, Cindy Williams Dunlap (Mark), and Carla Williams Herring. Surviving step grandchildren are Christopher Cherry (Gini), Chrystal Costin, Phillip Lindly, Elizabeth Fabian (Carson), Emily Starkey (Justin), Kaiti and Mason Dunlap, Calan Faulkner (Jeremy), Anna, Gregory and Lexie Herring. Surviving step great grandchildren are Ellie B. Cherry, Brianna Lindly, Tucker Costin, Jameson Lindly. Numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews also survive. Visitors are welcome at other times at the Baker homeplace. Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. on Monday, May 30 at Williford Funeral Home, Fuquay-Varina. Royster's Celebration of Life will be at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, May 31 at Williford Funeral Home. Burial will be at Willow Springs Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery on Highway 42, Willow Springs.
