Clint Luther Hege

Clint Luther Hege, 83, of Norlina, passed away Wednesday, February 4, 2009 at Roanoke Memorial Hospital, Roanoke, VA.
Mr. Hege was born on October 25, 1925 in Advance, and lived in Norlina, for the past 60 years. He was the son of the late Charlie Lewis and Ella Smith Hege.
Mr. Hege was a World War II veteran, serving in the Army Air Corps. He received his B.S. and M.Ed. degrees from North Carolina State University and spent his entire 41-year career as a principal and teacher at Norlina High School. He served on the state NCAE certification team and was state FFA advisor.
Mr. Hege served as district governor of the Ruritan Club, councilman and mayor pro-tem of Norlina. He was a member of the Norlina United Methodist Church and served as chairman of the administrative board, lay leader, and Sunday school teacher. He also served on lay witness mission teams for many years. He had perfect attendance for more than 45 years.
Mr. Hege was involved in athletics his entire life. He played on N. C. State's Big Four Championship baseball team, played in the national semi-pro tournament, and scouted for the Cleveland Indians for more than a decade. He officiated both high school and college sports from 1949-2003 and officiated state championships in both North Carolina and Virginia.
Mr. Hege was preceded in death by his wife, Marian Rowland Hege; three brothers and two sisters.
He is survived by son, Clint L. Hege, Jr. (Paula) of Rocky Mount, VA; daughter, Pam H. Gorham (Edward) of LaPlata, MD, their four children, Laura Striwerka (Rob) of Redondo Beach, CA, Capt. Marianna Hamilton (Brian) of Castle Rock, CO, Caroline Edelin (Matt) of LaPlata, MD, Ted Gorham (Holly) of Lanham, MD; three great-grandchildren; and sister, Sarah H. Seaford of Advance.
Mr. Hege's funeral is scheduled for 3:00 p.m., Sunday, February 8, 2009, at the Norlina United Methodist Church, officiants will be Rev. Judson Dunlap, and Rev. Dr. Seong- il Eom.
Members of the Men's Bible Class will serve as honorary pall bearers. Active pallbearers are Tom Traylor, Tom Frazier, Bob Lynch, and Jim Overby.
