Allyn Staton Obituary

Allyn Moore Staton, 58, of Carrboro died December 21, 2010 at UNC Hospital surrounded by his family. He was the son of William W. and Ellen B. Staton.
Allyn attended Lee County Schools and graduated from the Darlington School in Rome, GA. He earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Philosophy from Wake Forest University. He was employed by Hardbarger Business College as Assistant Director of Admissions, and later by the School of Communication Arts where he was the Director of Financial Aid.
Allyn was an avid traveler and outdoorsman. He toured Europe extensively and had a particular love of the Colorado mountains and the North Carolina waterways. He enjoyed skiing, hiking, kayaking, jogging, and cycling. He had a very special talent for telling humorous stories of his life experiences. He will always be remembered for his zest for life, his wry and ironic sense of humor, his eye for beauty, and the love of his family and friends.
Allyn was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife, Diane Jones Staton of Carrboro, and his brother, Wayne Staton, of Sanford.
Allyn will always be loved, missed, and remembered by his family and his very special friends, Ralph, Annie Belle, Jerry, Herb and Melinda, Moore, Lisa, and Beverly.
Allyn’s family and friends wish special thanks to Dr. Valerie Dechant and the kind, caring, and professional staff in the Neuroscience ICU at UNC Hospital.
A memorial service was held 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, December 28, 2010 at University Presbyterian Church, 209 East Franklin Street, Chapel Hill, NC 27514.
Memorials may be made to the William W. and Ellen B. Staton Scholarship Endowment at Central Carolina Community College.
