George Westerfield Obituary

George Sumner Westerfield III

February 11,1946 - July 11, 2014

George Sumner Westerfield, 68, passed peacefully at Rex Hospital in Raleigh on Friday, July 11, 2014 surrounded by his family. George was born February 11, 1946 to Francis Churchill Westerfield and Lillian Judith Bauer Westerfield, in Louisiana. He was one of two children. His younger brother Francis Julius Westerfield currently resides in Montgomery, Texas.

George had a love for science, which he studied while attending Lamar University in Beaumont, Texas. After graduating, he met Kathleen Haugh while teaching. He married Kathleen, had four children, and later settled in Cary, NC. Over his career he spent time as a teacher, store manager, and tool salesman. After Kathleen passed in 2000, he continued looking after his family. As he reached retirement he met Marsha Lewandowski and remarried. George loved interacting with people and always had a unique perspective.

He is survived by his wife, Marsha Lewandowski; brother Francis Julius Westerfield; son Daniel Westerfield; daughter Ann Rodr and husband Stephen; son Stephen Westerfield and wife Judi; son Michael Westerfield and wife Crystal; grandchildren, Joshua Westerfield, Cohen Rodr, Isabella Westerfield, Oliver Rodr, George Westerfield, and Alexander Westerfield.

George loved life and enjoyed cars, fishing, and conversing with people. After retiring, he spent time with his grandchildren cruising around Jordan Lake on his pontoon boat.

He will be missed by his family and all who knew him.

A memorial service celebrating George's life will be held at St. Andrews Catholic Church in Apex, NC on July 18th at 11:00 a.m.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be sent to the American Lung Association.

I remember George as a devoted family man who had a special skill and love for working on cars. He was always ready to help me when I had a problem, especially with my old car! He loved his pine trees and hanging out at lakes.
