Macon Warfield Michaux, Sr. died January 15, 2013 in Goldsboro, NC after a courageous fight with cancer. He was born in Goldsboro, NC August 9, 1927, the son of Edward Randolph Michaux and Anna Lewis Dortch. He attended Goldsboro city schools and graduated from the Virginia Military Institute in Lexington, VA with a Bachelor of Arts in history and was a four year varsity swimmer. He was employed with GAF Corporation for thirty five years retiring in 1989. He served on active duty in the
US Marine Corps in 1945 – 46 and again in 1951-54 with tours of duty in Korea. Macon was a life-long member of St. Stephen's Episcopal Church,
BPOE #139 Elks Lodge and a member of the Goldsboro Rod & Gun Club, and many other informal groups with friends in his hometown.
He was preceded in death by his first wife Norma Hunley Michaux and his grandson Garret Davis. Macon is survived by his wife Anne Bradshaw Davis Michaux of the home and children Mary Michaux Coleman and husband Wiley and their children Molly, Wiley, Jr. and Mary Katherine of New Bern, NC; Macon Warfield Michaux, Jr. and wife Martha and their children Hunley, Macon III, and David of Raleigh; Molly Michaux Simmons and husband Chris and their children Robbie, Anna and Reese of Raleigh; Gary Allen Davis and wife Patty and their daughter Katherine of Goose Creek, SC; Leslie Earl Davis and his son Rick of Columbia, SC , and sister Betty Michaux Graham and her husband John W. Graham of Raleigh.
Macon is remembered for his love of fishing and hunting. He spent many years at his beloved cabin he built on Tucker's Creek, with his family and friends doing what he loved best. His sense of humor was infectious and he will be remembered for his quick wit. His many passions included his affection for VMI and the lifelong friendships made there and in the Marine Corps. His research and records of his family's history was in depth and will always be appreciated by his children and grandchildren. The family would like to thank those at Southeastern Medical Oncology Center and Kitty Askins for their loving care.
Family visitation will be held Wednesday, January 16, 2013 from 1:00 – 2:00 p.m. at St. Stephen's Church parish hall. Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. in the sanctuary of St. Stephen's Episcopal Church with Rev. Gene Carpenter officiating. Burial will follow in Willow Dale Cemetery with military honors.
