Maurice "Maury" MacAllister

Henkels, Jr

October 22, 1933 - May 19, 2015

Pittsboro

Maurice Henkels, 81, died at home after a valiant battle with prostate cancer. Originally from Wellesley Hills, MA, he was the son of the late Maurice Henkels, Sr. and the late Helen Anderson Henkels.

He is survived by his wife, Anne Mills Henkels, of the home and by six children: Ann Henkels, Dallas TX; Catherine Henkels, Greensboro, NC; Tim Henkels (Ooh), Oregon; Laurens Howle (Amelia), Mebane, NC; Andrew Howle (Renee), Elizabeth City, NC; and Lilla Howle (Chad Brah), Amherst, VA. He is also survived by two brothers: Peter Henkels, Thorndale, PA, and David Henkels, Melbourne Australia.

He received his education from Exeter, Harvard College and Harvard Law School. He was an Air Force pilot in the early days of jet aviation.

Memorials made be made to the "summer snack" program at corafoodpantry.org. or to UNC Hospice, both in Pittsboro, NC.

A celebration of Maury's life will be held at 3:00 PM on June 13 at the Gathering Place in Fearrington Village.

The family asks, on Maury's behalf, that you call someone you love and tell them so.
