William Yopp Obituary

William Harriss Yopp, Jr.
Lake Lure
William Harriss Yopp, Jr., 74, formerly of Cary, passed away on December 10, 2011 at Carolina Medical Center in Charlotte. Born on January 2, 1937 in Rutherfordton, NC; he was the son of the late William Harriss and Nell Tate Yopp.
Bill finished school at NC State in 1960 in Civil Engineering and retired after 30 + years from NCDOT as a Highway Design Engineer. He was an avid NC State Fan and enjoyed attending the Wolfpack sports club.
Together, Bill and wife Jeanette raised their family in Cary, NC; first in Scottish Hills and then Farren Court. They were formerly members at White Plains United Methodist Church before moving to Lake Lure several years ago.
He is lovingly remembered by his wife of 53 years, Jeanette Blair Yopp; three children, Robbin Y. Maloney and Joe Maloney, of Clayton, Gregg Yopp, of Clayton, and Jenny Yopp and Cherie Swarthout, of Charlotte; nine grandchildren, Douglas, Mary Nell, Marissa and Jakob, Leigh Anne, Frazier and Allison, and Mattison and Zuri; two great-grandchildren, Gregory and Jaden; four siblings, Michael and Jan Yopp, Alan and Emily Yopp, Nell and Wayne Murray, and Charles and Laura Yopp III; and by other family and friends.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Chris Yopp.
Family will receive friends on Wednesday afternoon from 12:30 -2 PM at Brown-Wynne Funeral Home, with Funeral Services beginning at 2 PM.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation (MMRF) - 383 Main Avenue 5th Floor - Norwalk, CT 06851 or the American Heart Association - 3131 RDU Center Dr # 100 -Morrisville, NC 27560.

Shocked to hear about Bill. I've had a note on my calendar for months to get in touch with Bill and find out what he was up too. Worked with him at DOT and enjoyed talking with him about cars. He helped me a lot with my Karmann Ghia, and yes Gregg, I still have the Karmann Ghia.

Dear Jeanette,
You are very much on my mind and heart. I wish i could come to funeral, but not possible...hope you have gotten messages I have left various places...hate i was not around to be of help...but will be there for you when you get back up our way.
Please share my deep sympathy with all your precious family....know how hard OM THEM to lose BILL, too and how close you all were...very special family...many great memories and he lives on in each of you...
