Iva Walton Obituary

Iva Myrtle Hayes Walton, 87, of Raleigh, died Sunday, July 24, 2011 at Universal Healthcare of Raleigh.
Iva was born April 8, 1924 in Pine Knot, KY to the late Samuel J. Hayes and Una Kidd Hayes. She was a member of North Raleigh United Methodist Church and the Millbrook Women's Club.
Iva was preceded in death by her husband, Charles F. Walton, Sr.
She is survived by her sons, Charles F. Walton, Jr. of Sumter, SC; William J. Walton of Arkansas; eight grandchildren, Jonathan Walton; Jennifer Spenser; Jill Walton; Arthur Walton; Page Lee; Christopher Walton; Patty Young; Allison Hyll; and 14 great grandchildren.
The family will receive friends 7:00-9:00 p.m. Wednesday, July 27, 2011 at Brown-Wynne Funeral Home, 1701 E. Millbrook Road, Raleigh, NC 27609. A graveside service will be held 11:00 a.m. Thursday, July 28th at Raleigh Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to North Raleigh United Methodist Church, 8501 Honeycutt Road, Raleigh, NC 27615.

Billy, Charlie, and families,
I worked with Ms. Iva at the NC soil labs in 1977&78 and thoroughly enjoyed her friendship. Even after I returned to Fayetteville, I enjoyed coming back to Raleigh to visit her and your dad. I am so grateful now that I called her and came up to visit her again a couple of years ago. I had wanted to come back to see her this spring, and had no idea she had passed away until now.
She was a wonderful person, and she and Mr. Charlie always treated me like I was family when I came to see them.
I will always cherish my memories of her.

Father Walton and Family,
Elizabeth and I are at a loss for adequate words to express our sadness for you. We had the blessed opportunity of meeting your mom during Edward's graduation from UNC. I know heaven just received one of the most special angels. You are a reflection of your mom in the way your treat people with respect and empathy. Not to mention the way you make each person feel loved. We are so sorry for your loss.

It is difficult for me to put into words what Mrs. Walton meant to me. She use to " haul me around " just like Bill and Charlie when we were playing ball at Millbrook. She was a wonderful lady. Through the years I would visit her, she was always so very kind. We who knew her, will miss her, but she will always be in our hearts.

Charlie, Wayne and I send our deepest sympathy. Even though it has been many years since we saw your Mom we remember her as a very vivacious woman. I will always remember the story she told about when your Dad came home from WWII. She was expecting him to come but wasn't sure of his arrival day and time.
