Charles was kind to me as a new minister in our chapter, new to the South, new to so many things. His encouragement and caring was remarkable. He will be missed .

Chuck was a wonderful mentor to new ministers, a great model for how to be engaged in this work for the long haul. He was an open book about the challenges and blessings of being a minister and a family man. I read his books and treasured our conversations, many of which happened at the Southeastern UU Ministers Association meetings at The Mountain. My thoughts and prayers are with all of his family members.

There's a hole in our Unitarian Universalist community without Chuck Howe. We loved him so! Our Southern Unitarian Universalist family, especially, misses him already. He brought us many, many gifts!
Chuck and I shared a love of the history of Unitarianism and Universalism in the South... and as I gathered the history of Shelter Neck, he was a wonderful resource.
Love and care to Chuck's family at this time...

I met Charles when I started at Wesley Seminary in Washington DC. He encouraged me so many times on my path into ministry, and convinced me to run for the Commission on Appraisal when I was waffling. He was passionate and kind and wise. I will miss him. My condolences to family and his many friends.

To the family and friends of Charles,
I send you my deepest condolences. Charles was a wonderful colleague. Although we never served in the same area at the same time, somehow our paths crossed on occasion and I felt a real warmth and caring in his presence. He was involved, as I recall, in Collegium and that may be where I first met him many years ago. His scholarship about Universalism has been influential in my path in ministry. He will be missed by me and I know by very many of our UU colleagues.
Holding you all in my heart and prayers,
Rev. Dr. Nina D. Grey

Dear Ann,
Sonya and I send you lots of love. We are holding you from afar in your loss. Charles was such a good friend and a fine man. I remember many wonderful hours together. And of course the inpromptu installation sermon!
What he dreamed is ours to do.

Dear Ann, I met Chuck when I joined the Care Team at church and was priviledged to serve with him at least for a little while. I liked him tremendously and feel very forturnate to have met him. I have already been missing his presence on the Care Team. Thinking of you and your family and sending deepest sympathy.
